Ah now I get your earlier post, but about 90% of my music collection is rap music.

Her lyrics are splatter level shock value garbage. I don't think her flow is anything special either, maybe compared to other mainstream/club female artists she is but I'm not much into radio rap to be honest.

I won't be the one to complain that taking art too seriously degrades straightforward pleasures, it'd be a tad hypocritical …

You do have a point here. I've listened to many albums with more questionable content and by dodgier characters, guess I'm just not very fond of her public twitter horseshit. I'm not a fan of this type of hypersexual 'artistry' a la Nicki Minaj & co in general.

I'm not a fan of the "artistry" because I find it quite soulless and empty - I quite like the sound though.

Yeah, I've seen some of her Twitter stuff and she's full of bollocks.

Don't really know what to make of the hypersexual artistry thing, I hadn't watched the chart videos for a few years until late 2014, and thought I was pretty relaxed about sexual performers, but I was genuinely shocked by the sheer barrage of tits and arse per square centimetre in today's top ten—what was a bit of a perve in the Bobby Brown era is now a very purified commodity.

Pretty much every single mainstream female performer(s) is packaged that way now - usually voluntarily too I would think.
It's kind of depressing.

It's unsettling that female performers now claim constant skimpy dress as being a big part of their "artistic agency" … so the critique of sexism and objectification in the music industry has been crushed by performers who self-actualise as empowered by stripping off. It's hard to see a way in to validate a view either for or against when there's that level of personal identification with what the market also appears to demand from the product.

It's soulless and empty plus I don't like the sound. I realise we're talking about a big range of genres as your Rihannas, Nicki Minajs and Taylor Swifts don't sound the exact same but there are certain similarities which makes it easy for me to dismiss them as a whole. I was never into top 40 music and the few occasions I liked a song it usually wasn't one of these generic club songs.

I'd actually put Taylor Swift in a different category to Rihanna or Nicki - I think she's got an almost indie pop sensibility and sound.

Might have been the case before her aggressive makeover, she looks and sounds just like the other two now. Wasn't a fan of her corny country music either though.
Agree with the overall notion that especially with females in the industry you'll always have the most marketable face promoted and not the most innovative or even catchy music and if said artist is pretty enough they don't seem to bother investing any time in their music.
