I'm no big fan of Madonna either, and I very much enjoyed Prince's music, but Madonna is no doubt a massive pop icon.

Madonna is a great artist in her own right, wouldn't be to my tastes but she will remembered in the same breath as other musical greats.

Iconic, certainly. But, for my money, she's only made two albums with legitimate claims to greatness, Like A Prayer and Ray Of Light. I'm not saying she's not a legend, just questioning her musical talent compared to people like MJ and Prince.

I wouldn't put Madonna on the same step as Jackson and Prince musically, but she's still an icon. Any of the young female stars out there will point to her as inspiration and reference her in the music, videos and stage performances. Additionally, possibly the biggest style icon in pop. RtC, I'd also add Bedtime Stories to that list, a LaFace classic right there

I wouldn't put Prince on the same level as MJ in the first place. Prince was a great musician and had the ability to be his own backup band but MJ was on another level for me.

Fair do's, I don't feel strongly enough to argue about it. And she was the soundtrack to most of my adolescent years. For what it's worth, I do like a lot of Bedtime Stories (if I haven't made it clear, I am a fan and own most of her albums up to and including Confessions on a Dancefloor) but, listening back, it feels very of its, mid 90's, time.

Either way, as I said earlier, she's definitely an icon. Possibly the most iconic pop star of all time.

I cannot imagine myself purposely listening to a Madonna song. Prince was cool though.

Madonna's music is for anyone who likes to be a bit camp, dance and partaay, you don't need to go way back to find some of her tunes that get you up on your feet.

Might sound a bit odd but I think there's a bit of a punk spirit about Madonna.

No, actually I wasn't even that big a Prince fan, most of his albums often seemed to lack something. Just saying talent-wise there are leagues between them.

I don't think Peej's is quite as rough around the edges as Azelia.
Seems less able to deal with her troubles better too

Edit: that last line makes no sense, meant to say that PJ deals with her troubles better.

Love 212, what a standout brilliant track. Sadly it was already a club hit before Azaelia got onto it, she did make it a lot better though.

Has she had any other songs that are really great? I looked into some of her other singles a while back and found them a bit of a let down.

There's a good amount of what's effectively performance art out there that goes way beyond Azaelia … Linder Sterling must've been pretty insane in her day, wearing dresses made up of leftover chicken meat and tossing used tampons into the audience.

That song annoyed the shit out of me that year it came out BW. I could not stand it and struggled to even understand what the hell she was going on about. Nice beat, poor vocals and even worse "dance moves".

I haven't heard anything else from her that's noteworthy.
Only posted it because I was thinking of female singers with a touch of a punk attitude.
