I was listening to this just yesterday, Prince' part starts at 3:23.

Can't think of many commercially successful pop artists as talented as he was, maybe a handful at best

That version is great, it takes balls to take a Clapton solo and make it your own. Prince's fingerprints are all over that solo. Great stuff.

Here is Clapton singing and playing it at Concert for George. One of my all time favourite performances.

Bonus clip, Billy Preston doing My Sweet Lord, absolutely adore this one. Really the entire concert is great.

Heard a rumor he was close to death yesterday but was still seriously shocked today. Never got to see him live, had tickets once but he had to cancel. Terribly sad news. Worse still if he refused treatment that could have helped him.

A friend saw him in London couple years ago and said it was one of the best performances he's seen in more than 20 years of going to concerts. Tickets were dirt cheap too, 30 quid for a name as big as Prince is ridiculously low.

Unlike the vast majority of big pop artists he was a genuine musical genius, think he played some 30+ instruments. His aversion against the record industry only added to his charisma imo.

They're older though.

Billy Joel is the same age as Springsteen but not as big a star these days. Madonna is the same age as Prince. Far too young to be gone. I remember when "Let's Go Crazy" came out and being blown away.

It would seem that Prince was sacred to Jonesy.

I'm not a huge fan of Madonna fan but she has been involved in the creation of some brilliant pop tunes.

Madonna, and I love a lot of her work, could never be said to be a musical great. Maybe, a bit like James Murphy, or Massive Attack, her talent is having taste.

That said, her Love Song duet with Prince was shit.
