If you don't mind going on your own and your situation changes, keep an eye on gumtree a couple of weeks before the festival, tickets sometimes pop up on there for sale.

I got a couple of Barry Adamson cds yesterday. Apparently, he was the bass player in Magazine and he was also one of Nick Cave's original Bad Seeds. The first cd is the Murky World of Barry Adamson and is a compilation, the second one is called Stranger on the Sofa. I'm not gonna go on about them here (I've got a blog for that) but they're both well worth a listen.

Set The Controls For The Heart of the Pelvis (with Jarvis on vocals) was also an Adamson production IIRC, as was Anita Lane's cover of These Boots Were Made For Walkin' from after she and Cave split. Clever guy, based on an in-depth interview I saw with him once.

A lot of Cave's ex and current bandmates have had great records over the years. Rowland S. Howard, The Dirty Three, Einsturzende Neubaten. You could have a couple of shelves' full of listening just to good stuff that's one degree of separation from Nick Cave.

Einsturzende... I read about them when reading a Depeche Mode biography a few years back- always meant to get some of their stuff, never got around to it. Anything you could recommend?

Um, yeah, I'm not a rusted on fan of Einsturzende, but I've got 1/2 Mensch, and I suspect it's as good a place to start as any. Difficult listening depending on what you normally like, my friend who's a bigger fan likes to claim they invented industrial music.

I prefer my avant-garde German sounds more trad: Neu!, Faust, Can, especially that last. 😃

Can are my favourite band currently. I can't believe it took me so long to find out about them, especially considering the amount of bands they influenced.

The drumming is the best I've ever heard. It's what makes it for me.

Ibby - yes. I see you get it. Jaki Liebezeit is God basically. I still listen to "I'm So Green" on repeat for long periods. Can just fucking trick it out, they are unstoppably good.
