Reports in Spain that Arda Turan has a gambling problem and has lost so much money that he's in financial crisis. Might go some way to explaining the incident last week in which he assaulted a 70 year old journalist and was banned from the national team as a result. He's now subsequently retired from international football.

I think he assaulted the journalist because said journalist had a column where he had written hit pieces for months about how Turan threatened to refuse to play during the World Cup because he wanted bigger bonuses, which apparently wasn't true. It sounded like the bloke had an axe to grind. Turan had wanted him banned from the national team but they somehow let him on the same plane as the players with the other press people. I would have hit him too.

Maybe, but I'm sure he's had to exercise self control countless times throughout his career. At his age and level of experience, he should not being doing something so monumentally stupid that he's now banned from playing for his country.

I don't rate Turan as a player, but anyone who pursues a personal vendetta againse someone with the sole purpose of damaging their reputation has it coming in my book.

He wasn't banned from playing for Turkey, he retired after being suspended. Turan's NT career was always him having to shoulder his dogshit teammates (who he captained since he's been around 18 ) while being attacked for not giving a shit

I'm with Klaus. The bloke has the kind of relationship Messi has with Argentina only 100x worse, I remember back during the 2008 Euros the Turks around here were already giving him shit calling him a mercenary etc, won't blame him if some old cunt finally got a reaction out of him.

I concur. Basically +2 top players from whatever we have now.

I don't think Lacazette and Lemar will be anywhere near enough personally. We finished 5th this year with Sanchez and Özil in the team. We need more top quality, not more fillers. Sign Mbappe and James in addition to keeping those two and we might have a shot next year. Anything less than a few top class players added to this squad and we're just going to plummet further though.

he's a quality keeper, but he's very young, so there will be the inexperience-based mistakes... a year or 2 under Cech and methinks he's ready to start.. 😃
