Welcome Cohen, let's hope your oversupply of last names corresponds to a surfeit of first places.

Let's hope his middle names are all last names too :egg:

This is purely an investment play. He prob shouldn't be in the 7th division, so we'll be able to make a nice profit from his sale.

A 20yr old in the 7th division isn't going to be playing in the senior side. Unless Wenger is really taking the piss and bringing back the banter era in full force (did we ever leave it?)

Yea, He'll have so much to learn before playing at this level. A jenks style gamble. He could be a good longer term addition.

my only issue with this theory is that the lad is already 20 years old.  What was he doing at a 7th division club at 20 years old?  OK, he's a "project buy", but usually we get those projects at 15 or 16 or 17 years old.  For me, if you are being brought in at 20, you should be at least somewhere close to being able to compete for a first team slot.

eh

Where was Vardy 3 years ago. People develop at different paces. We bought him for nothing. If he makes a leap that allows him to make first team in 2 years time, that's incredible. If not, that's about how much money Wenger makes each June when he's off commentating football games instead of buying strikers. No sweat

The last time we bought a player from non league it worked out well for us isn't it.

Don't even know why the media covered this. It's probably with a view to riling up Arsenal fans. The same ones who think signing a 400,000 pound prospect is done in lieu of signing a first team star.

Yeah, it's obvious, the transfer is even mentioned in German football media. Results in a few cheap clicks, a lot more than if one of the other bigger English clubs signed some kid from a non-league side. Riles up Arsenal supporters and gives opposition fans something to laugh about.

Don't really care at this point. Always good to see if the club is doing some scouting and can unearth some gem, some of them do make it like Coleman for Everton (although that one came from Ireland I think). Hard to get excited about it when you think about the chances of Wenger still being our manager when or if this kid ever breaks into the first team

This was expected given Wenger's public declaration that we were looking for the next big star in the untapped gold mine that is lower leagues. He has a long way to go to make it at PL level though. He looks physical but the art of defending especially at fullback takes a long time to master.

Who? Miyaichi? Can't think of anyone we've signed at an advanced age from the actual non-league in England.

Think Clrnc is referring to Jenkinson. He came from the 5th or 6th division and only made a handfull of starts for Charlton before we bought him.

I thought he was going back years to someone.
