Was just listening to a podcast with Tim Vickery the football Vikapedia. He's one of two football analysts whose opinions I respect [the other is Andy Brassell]. When asked who the standout player in Copa America was up to last weekend, he said Juan Manuel Vargas. He was overflowing with praise for the guy. I wish we would take a look at him. He's better than a lot of the other left back options being thrown around, and would give us that offensive bite we have been lacking from our full backs since Lauren and Cole left.

Vargas is a winger who's been 'transformed' into a LB. Defensively, he is very poor. He's enhanced his reputation at the Copa because he's been very good in an attacking sense. Definitely not someone we should be looking at for left back, we already have enough fast left backs who can't defend.
Vargas is a phenomenal player but his left-back days passed him a long time ago (mainly because he can't defend). He plays as a left-wing forward for Fiorentina, although Mihajlovic has also used him quite a bit as a left midfielder.

As an example, he was on talksport in the week, they asked him about Campbell, his answer was that it isn't his region and he knows nothing about him and then he went on to describe not only his playing style but his personality. 😐
Well, he gave the opnion he had. But you do point out one of the things that I respect about Vickery. He is always clear where it's not his area of expertise. Too many talking heads like to ramble about all areas of football as though they are the master. I really respect guys who are very clear about their area of expertise and are very good at it.
