Guess the guys that fit the bill are inler, melo, parker, toulalan, pizarro, mvila, diarra
Inler doesn't want to leave Italy. Toulalan will cost far too much. M'Vila has just signed a new contract. Pizarro is nearly 32 and so too old.
That leaves Melo, Parker and Diarra (both of them), and I would add Fernando from Porto to the list.
Melo is very similar to Song, unfortunately with similar weaknesses, but would be an upgrade in my opinion.
Parker is an option. Would be like signing an English Flamini, but he' getting on too and might cost a bit too much.
Alou Diarra has confirmed he's leaving Bordeaux, and I wouldn't have thought it would be for all that much. He could be an option. Always felt he was a decent player.
Lass Diarra is a player similar in style to Parker, only younger, probably better technically and physically, but without half the heart, fight or determination.
Fernando is an old school sitting midfielder. Very disciplined, a little limited technically, and not as strong as someone like Melo, more like a Gilberto-lite.
Not sure any of them are perfect, or that Wenger is even looking at someone to compete with Song, but off that list I'd probably go with Alou Diarra or Fernando, with Song providing stiff competition. Sit them in front of the defence and let Fabregas and Jack/Aaron run the game ahead of them.
Is there anyone else that might fit the bill? I think this is the most important position to get right.
