i'm going to flip out if we get samba. that would basically prove wenger has no idea what good defenders look like. he mustve just lucked into the sol campbell transfer.

Wenger just signed him because he was free if he had commanded a transfer fee he would have gone elsewhere and we would have ended up with another Stephanovs of Cygan.

last night's champs league final confirmed to me that we need to stop dicking around with mediocre players. It's time to start a mass trade-in of our scrubs and get 2 superlative players. Gervinhos and Sambas are a waste of our money.

The more it becomes clear who is going to be available this summer the more I start to think that our biggest chance of progress is going to come from within. Not many out there, particularly defenders and defensive midfielders, that look like ready made solutions. I just wish we had a couple more really exciting youth prospects coming through.

😆 Cygan and Stepanovs were't bought in to play as first choice center backs unlike Campbell, Gallas or Vermaelen.

I just used those players as examples of cut priced defenders who proved they were worth every penny.

Well thats exactly right Tim, the reason I don't join in in the "we should buy this player/we should buy that player debates" is we don't really know who's available and players contract talks can break down and theres a sudden opportunity to snap them up.
I'm actually in agreement with the promotion of players from within the problem is the type of players he selects.
The fact is it's all down to Wenger, it's not really important who he buys what is important is the direction he's taking the team- and I've made up my mind on that one.

Yep, that's how I'm starting to feel too. Take a risk on bringing in one young-ish world class talent with the bulk of our budget, sell a few of the squad players and maybe spend what we have left on a left back or centreback.

Then throw in the younger lads to fill out the squad.
