I'd certainly take Cahill as a solid CB option. A CB who can keep his head is absolutely vital, someone who can play with a bit of maturity, is absolutely what we need.

I certainly wouldn't pin my hopes on Chamakh or Bendtner providing anything useful next season, though.

A striker/wide forward is THE must for me.

Cahill and Hazard are the two I quite fancy more than anyone else, but I suppose a great (emphasis on great) alternative to van Persie is extremely important.

Cahill, Hazard would be a good summer in my books.
I would also be for bringing in a wily veteran striker like Forlan.
I guess we will need a 3rd string goalkeeper as well

Mannone would be able to do a job as 3rd choice, but I'm not sure he will stick aorund; he wants to be Number 1. Do you think Lehmann cold have another year in him as 3rd choice? Or is that wishful thinking?

Forlan is a name that has crossed my mind more than once lately. 32 in May, and off the back of a bad season at Atletico, maybe he wouldn't cost too much? Although I think Spurs were quoted a large figure for him in January, but it could be different come summer time.

ricky, i've thought of keeping lehmann on as 3rd choice player/coach as well. we need as much experience/intensity/winningnessability as possible.

Yep, if we think he can play 10 games next season without costing us too much, he'd be a good presence to have around the dressing room. Only hope is that he doesn't take leak behind the goals and steal fans' clothing

Van bommels been great for Milan and is out of contract in the summer. Would be great to share the load with song

Van Bommel, much as he's a prick, would actually be a really useful player for us. Wenger would never bring him in though. But we wouldn't be drawing matches from 4-0 up with him on the pitch, it'd descend into a fist fight well before that stage.

It would be a waste of time signing. Fullback is literally the last place that we need to make a signing.

All I ever see Van Bommel do these days is run around kicking people. He's like a shitter version of De Jong - old as the Bible, and just enough pace left to catch up with players when they've gone past him and foul them.

We should have signed him years and years ago, but it's much too late now.

Yes, but Italian clubs all do him a nice big favour by being fucking slow.

Hadn't realised Van Bommel only signed a 6 month contact. Get him the fuck in, he's got all the things i want in a midfielder and he's been excellent at Milan.

Lehmann as 3rd choice? I like it. Sell Almunia Denilson and Rosicky, bring back Lansbury and thats midfield and GK sorted imo.

Jack recently said Jens has been great around the training ground since coming back, and has even been giving the half-time team talks! Jens says he's realised life without football is boring - keeping him on as 3rd/4th choice, and getting him to assist the goalkeeping coach, seems like a great idea to me.

You and I have different ideas about how a fullback should contribute offensively in our team, so I can understand why you'd hold that view. Although I'm sure Clichy's frequent mental retardation makes you angry sometimes too.

It's simply that if we were to sign four players, a fullback would be the last player to invest in. Wide-forward, Centre-mid, Centrehalf, striker in that order are our priorities in my opinion.
