Perez supposedly has 40 journalists working for him across Europe and South America. He was saying yesterday how he has sent two of them to find out more about our attempts to sign Gotze. He also says we're in for Del piero, and is in Turin "meeting with Juventus" to find out more.

He's either off his rocker or a very well connected guy. Auclair seems to think the latter. He has definitely called our interest in players long before the mainstream media have reported on it.

He's off his rocker, Ricky. Wenger signing a 38-year-old Del Piero who's having his worst season in two decades is about as likely as Stoke stringing three passes together under Tony Pulis.

I don't see the Del Piero thing either, but quite a few papers in Italy have recently said we're interested, and Perez said it quite a while back.

I don't know who he is but his blog on argie football is good. I didn't actually read the Holtby thing from him, got it from someone else, just the Suarez business because you guys linked it.

Vertonghen basically issued a come get me plea, Podolski seems to be a terribly kept secret and the M'vila thing won't go away so I included him.

Would be a pretty damn good summer in all fairness; especially if we managed to tie it all up before the euros/olympics.

Ricky: I doubt any of them really think we're interested. It's just a weird sign of respect for a once great player.

On that note though: Be sure to check out the Coppa Italia semi between Juve and Milan tonight. Apparently Conte hinted during his press conference that Del Piero will start the game.

I like the Holtby rumours.

The way I see it though Perez's credibility hinges on us signing Matias Suarez, and I just can't see it if we're getting Podolski. It's the same with Verthongen. The rumours made sense before we signed Mertesacker but not now. It would be very unlike Arsenal to stack up on players on positions where we already have some cover. We couldn't even sign a cheap left-back in january because Gibbs and Santos were already at the club.

I would sign Del Piero so he could teach the boys a thing or two about taking a free kick. I'm sure it'd be a Lehmann/Sol-esque signing in that we wouldn't rely on him, but he'd get a game here and there, sell us a boatload of shirts and be a major figure in the dressing room.

Still though. He's 38 and a Juve legend. It seems wrong and impossible.

As for M'Vila, I haven't heard anything about this in France, so unless this is a very well kept secret by Stade Rennais and Arsenal, then I can't see it. He has been very good this season though (just like last). I like him better than Song now because Yann is simply far more aggressive at winning the ball back. Song is too languid, and nowadays it seems like he plays more to lob the ball to Robin from deep than to actually help us outmuscle and outhussle the opposition.

Defender, midfielder, striker and two wingers doesn't seem ridiculous to me. Alot of guys will be leaving this summer.

Alot of guys SHOULD be leaving this summer. Doesn't mean that they will necessarily, and I can see Arsene use the "i don't want to block a young player's path" line.

I think we'll get Podolski and maybe 1 more first XI player for the midfield, then a couple of kids. Maybe an extra player for the 25 man squad if we can find a bargain bin deal.

Sounds about right to me. Most of the players who are on their way out have already been replaced. Younger players like Bartley, Chamberlain, Coquelin and possibly Miyaichi are next in line.

Can't subscribe to that I'm afraid but we'll see the truth of the matter soon enough.

Likely departures look like this;

GK - Fabianski, Almunia, Mannone

DF - Squillaci

MF - Benayoun, Lansbury, Denilson

FW - Chamakh, Bendtner, Arshavin, Vela, Park

Agreed? That's a lot of players to try and move on, especially when you consider how much we struggled last summer.

I think we'll have a lot of trouble offloading some of the returning loanees, and who the hell will want guys like Diaby or Chamakh? I also struggle to see us simply letting them go to any bid, I'd imagine we have a set price for most, which many clubs won't want to meet.

A lot of clubs would pay serious money for Diaby. He sounds like an Arsenal signing tbh, perhaps a bit too old though - talented, attacking midfielder coming off a serious injury. 🙂

Fiorentina were apparently interested in Chamakh. Will be clubs in France as well that would gladly buy him I´d imagine. He is not a bad player really. He is just a really, really poor 2nd choice.
