Intelligence is spot on because it's not an attribute you can associate with our British contingent. Monreal is ageing but he still reads the game well and has excellent focus.

Kos and Mustafi could do with a bit more protection in front of them.

This is good analysis but I have to point out that the reply shows pretty clearly that Kane muffs the chance and then Monreal tackles it out of Kane's feet. Still a vital intervention, but Monreal let Kane run off him in the first place and he should have scored barring a shocking miskick

We let them have the midfield. Dembele and Wanyama utterly bossed us. Unforgivable to let a team be so dominant in midfield when we're playing them at the Emirates. It's Spurs ffs, not fucking Barcelona are they.

Truth be told, we were lucky to come away with a point. Our goal should've actually been ruled out for offside as well.

I think Elneny deserved to start too. Wouldn't have won against Ludogorets without him.

I'm not sure what to make of Xhaka so far. He's not what I imagined him to be. I can see where the value is but he's got a lot of development left to do before he's proper starting material.

Don't think Monreal was all that. Was a clear improvement from his recent outings though. He lost Walker in the early goings and allowed him a free header, and the he again lost Kane for his missed shot which turned into a block (which I now see labeled as great defending). Any of those chances converted and I reckon a lot of people would be a lot less hesitant with the praise.

Xhaka was miles better than Coquelin. Hilarious how the latter is praised by the same people over and over again despite putting in another nothing performance today. What did he actually do? Absolutely fuck all.

We didn't start with Coquelin and El Neny because it's a bang average midfield worthy of some club like Watford. It offers fine proctetion and nothing else, going forward it's as bland as a midfield can be, lots of sideways passes and little else. Can't believe I'm having to point this out. 😆

Xhaka passing however is top notch, especially between the lines. Finds the likes of Mesut over and over again. He should start every game.

Hang on. Kane was never Monreal's man to start with. He did what he has to do and closed off the near post after recognising the danger, even if he benefited from Kane's miskick.
Once again, Iwobi left him too exposed. I thought the pace was too hard of young Alex at times and he struggled tracking back.

It couldn't have been that fucking bad if he managed 5 tackles to the "excellent" Coquelin's 1.

Incredibly overrated by some people, Coquelin. Super average in most aspects of the game.

The Eleny - Coquelin pivot is not inspiring and lacks cutting edge. I think people need to watch a replay of the match again where you get the chance to form a view without the emotional element of watching it live. I have and I thought Xhaka was good and played the role of receiver/distributor very well. He's still trying to find his range but there is no doubt in my mind that he will eventually be our number 1 midfielder. Him and Coquelin need to work on their positioning and anticipation because Mustafi and Kosceilny were too easily engaged because the protection in front of them was either caught ahead of the ball or dragged out wide leaving them exposed.

None of the other midfielders can replicate what he does so we are better adjusting to their strengths.

Ramsey was tidy when he came on, a wild shot aside. He was disciplined and kept moving the ball, but didn't take very many offensive initiatives. I actually would have liked to see him a bit more aggressive!

Agree with that. And somewhat oddly, this would mean at times not playing the very solid Coquelin, as what we need badly is to try to play our game going forward. Ramsey's determination and running, Neny's movement and Xhaka's passing, different mixes of those to try to make something. Coq's needed threatening teams, and fits perfectly when Santi's there - need for protection is acute but no so much the need to create.

Ramsey tonight - no, he wasn't brilliant, but you could see movement and impetus when he entered. We needed that, and he could have influenced the score with just a bit of luck (shot was from a very similar position and much resembling one of his famous goals).

i thought xhaka was alright actually, he made some key interceptions. he didn't impose his passing on the game though, which hurt our forward momentum. he hasn't really had a complete performance for us yet.

what annoys me is that spurs imposed their gameplan more than we did. they weren't special or good to watch, but they dictated the frame of the game with their defensive style.
