Arsenal vs. Chelsea on Saturday at 530PM

I have always maintained the need for 3 in midfield for big games domestically and in the CL. If anything, watching Arsenal play a half like we did against Southampton or some moments in the 2nd half too, I would want us to always play a flat 3 in midfield and let teams go long.

I really am not 'targeting' anyone 🙂

Just think Cazorla isn't a natural midfielder and doesn't have the defensive nous that a central midfielder would. If we want to persist with two in midfield against even the big sides then Cazorla in my opinion should give way.

OK thought you were blaming him for our midfield being porous. My point is though, no matter what you think of Cazorla as a CM, no other CM can solve the problem you highlighted, a numerical disadvantage is hard to deal with at the top level.

On another note, Wenger completes 20 years in charge on the eve of this game. Generally matches around Wenger's milestones recently have all been a disaster. We played Chelsea on his 1000th game in charge of Arsenal two years back and lost 6-0 at the Bridge.

Not at all. I mentioned how a combination like Vieira Gilberto started struggling against sides in 2004-05 when managers started respecting Arsenal even more. And that was Vieira Gilberto. We have Coquelin Cazorla.

A two man midfield doesn't work, especially when one of the two is Cazorla.

I'm struggling to get your point, what's it that you disagree with ?

A 2 man midfield can work if you play a CM out wide who can tuck in to make it a 3 when needed. We used to play that way with Parlour out wide. Athletico currently do it with Saul and Koke but we currently play forwards out wide.

Most people won't readily admit it but Chelsea are a nightmare team for us. They combine possession football with a direct style and historically Wenger's teams have always struggled against this. The carrry a threat everywhere from aerial balls to quick breaks and even at 2-0 up you can never be confident. I was very impressed with the way Liverpool approached the game last week because every time it looked like Chelsea were building momentum, Liverpool raised their work rate and stopped them in their tracks. This is something we have to do regularly throughout the 90mins if we are going to come away with all 3 points.

The United one was as impressive IMO. He had a very good performance at Stamford bridge as well not too long ago IIRC.

that's exactly how i would prefer us to lineup and when ramsey gets back he can replace cazorla. perez and giroud can alternate unless perez proves to be the business then it's his spot.

I feel it doesn't matter how we line up unless we are quicker and sharper than Chelsea. We had the right template in the game at theirs last season until we lost our discipline. You can bet your money Costa will be out to cause aggravation yet again and suck players into needless fights so we better be on our guard. Leicester fell into disarray after he came on and claimed another victim.

I don't know why most defenders try to play clean football against Costa. If I were defending against him I'd be out to get him sent off each game. Being very physical, winding him up, whispering sweet nothings into his ear each time there's a coming together. Like Gabriel but much smarter and sneakier.

Because Costa is a master at the dark arts and he uses his size to great effect. He is Drogba reincarnated. He will protect the ball, invite a challenge and then go down like he's been shot. That's pretty much what he did to Wesileski on Tuesday and you could see it coming a mile away. If you were a defender, you keep in clean and don't allow yourself to get sucked in. Defenders need their concentration more than strikers. I think Kos handled him quite well away last season until Gabriel got involved.
