More like half, he had tons of assists in the first half of the season everybody thought he was nailed on to break Henry's record and then he faded off completely. That's not the point though, for 42m which is a lot of money at that point of time we were expecting someone to bring us up another level.

He definitely hasn't lived up to expectations for me, whatever the arguments about the value he brings. I couldn't wait to watch him play for us but he's not been nearly as aesthetically pleasing as I thought he'd be. What has really shocked me is how clumsy he has looked technically at times.

I've generally been an Ozil fan, but I've been watching a lot of KDB of late and thinking, why can't Ozil give us this consistent shift week in and week out. And it's not just that KDB has higher quality players around him. He really dictates games. He's impressive. That's what I was hoping Ozil would be for us. He just has not been that guy, and Wenger isn't going to make it happen

Since we signed Özil he has created more chances than anyone else in Premier League and he has assisted more goals than anyone else in Premier League. And that's despite playing with some absolute trash surrounding him.

Like you, i had a higher expectation than what he has delivered but to prefer Mkhitarian who did do Dortmund what Adebayor RVP and co. did to us is :boris:

Ozil's underwhelmed but so has the team we built around him. Overall, he's consistently been one of our top 3 players in the time he's been here, although I guess you could argue that says more about our team than about him.

He used to be criticised for being lazy and that stopped when stats proved otherwise.
It's now been adapted to him not tackling back rather than focusing on the fact that none of our main central midfielders can tackle at all.

ozil hasn't really been a ball-dominant playmaker since his bremen days. he evolved into a player that has a handful of outstanding moments here and there, and then largely stays flitting about on the margins. i was hoping he'd shoulder more responsibility at arsenal and make his presence felt in games consistently, but in my view that has never happened apart from that spell in the 15/16 season

keown reckons he's downed tools. i don't think he's ever liked ozil, now more than ever considering the comments he made about ex-arsenal players

So what expectations has he fully lived up for you for that amount of money and reputation? Statistical expectations maybe? You normally like to big up Ozil and play down the likes of Eriksen, Silva and Coutinho when it's pretty clear that they have delivered more to their respective teams in comparison, and is generally more consistent over the past couple of years.

At this juncture, it's clear the Ozil has been underwhelming and I would rather take an unknown quantity. But since you like to compare using stats, in the league Mikhitaryan has had 5 goals and 6 assists from 22 starts since he joined United, while in that same period Ozil has 8 goals and 9 assists from double the amount of time on the pitch. You wouldn't be able to tell from these statistics which one is the one-bit footballer.

I think Keown is on to something as i've thought similar for quite a while.
Of course i'm not happy but i kind of understand when i consider these questions.
Would you sign now when your relationship with fans is toxic?
Would you sign now and lose the higher wages of a free transfer?
Would you sign now for a manager past his "use by" date meaning that, realistically, you are never going to win the title or Champion's League?

He is gone like Cesc's dodgy hamstrings period and i expect him to miss a fair chunk of this season.
It was folly on Wenger's part to ignore common sense and expect these players who have no deep connection to The Arsenal to give their all in the final year when the team is even more hopeless than the one that finished 5th last season.

i'll give you eriksen, he's stepped up a level in the last 18 months

i don't think the other 3 have been better tbh. silva maybe 4-5 years ago, but not recently

Your last statement is key. It was only worth keeping them if we went big in the market for a big tilt this season. The way things turned out we would've been better off flogging them and starting the rebuild earlier

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

Not many players around who are as efficient as him in the final third but other than that, a huge disappointment. How many times do we see him fuck up 10 yard passes?

For a player of his ability it's mind-boggling.

I'm meh about him staying or going, but we NEED to replace with a high-output player.

Are we talking about Sanchez or Ozil? Both highly flawed yet brilliant players. Neither are completely irreplaceable.

Given the situation we are in right now, i would be take a Draxler-Ozil swap in January.
For Sanchez, i would take a Lemar and get rid of Xhaka for a Seri.
Add a vvd and we should make top 4 easily.
To win the title, get rid of Wenger.
