The City interest doesn't really make any sense to me. They've just signed Bernado Silva on top of all the forwards they already possess. Maybe Sanchez is another level above the likes of Sterling and Sane but it seems overly indulgent to me considering they have glaring weaknesses elsewhere, namely in midfield and defence.

I don't understand why Sanchez would be so hot on moving there with the coach who ditched him at Barca either.

Maybe, but they still seem be tentative in comparison to bayern as Premiership clubs have to approach with caution to avoid situations like the below

Agree with you Tone - you could trade off higher wages for a guarantee of trophies. However, I would think they would do it in a much more low-key style and not leak to the press that they have "...rejected his wage demands" or "...decided not to match Arsenal's offer". Of course, could be his agent doing the leaking, but to what end if he knows that Alexis has indicated a preference for them. Doesn't seem like the right MO - I suspect there is some truth to all this and that Alexis is indeed making wage demands which Bayern may not care to meet. His responses around "my agent will negotiate with Arsenal" also seem to indicate that he is open to staying, unlike the stock response, which would be something on the lines of "I will decide my future in the [coming weeks / after the Confederations Cup / whatever else]". Maybe I am naively optimistic.

I guarantee you he's not sacrificing £20m over the course of his last big contract for trophies. Certainly not by joining Bayern who are probably 1-5000 favorites to win it. It's akin to those guys who buy their own awards trophies and display it in their office. You're also significantly underestimating the ego of these guys if you think they'd happily take a pay cut to join Bayern.

Playing along, i think Bayern expected us to be our usual cheapskate selves of maintaining our "fair" wage structure but the reported generous offer must be enticing to Alexis if Bayern refuse to pay more than peanuts.

Been seeing comments around the place that the cub should play hard ball and keep Sanchez even if it means we lose out on a transfer fee next summer.
IMO that would only make sense IF the club was going to make it count both in terms of bringing in new players of like quality, and were also going to go all out to win the title come hell or high water.
Only problem is that I don't believe AW has any intent on doing either if it means a change of approach.

Agree completely. If we were to sign someone of the level of Mbappe or PEA, then it'd be pretty backwards to break up a front 3 that, for once, looks genuinely exciting and capable of achieving some success. If we settle for a Lacazette then we need them even more so to raise the level.

Take the hit, we'll have money to replace them next summer regardless and I have a feeling they're both bluffing anyway, especially Mesut.

Nah...most clubs would be happy to take Mesut on a free and match/beat whatever we are paying plus a sign-on fee. I'd actually happily push Ozil out this summer and keep Sanchez whether or not he signs a contract - hedge our bets. It's a different matter that no one will pay a significant fee for Ozil anyway - his value has dropped considerably after his s**tshow here.

If we get Lacazette, who's by no means top drawer, we need to retain this duo.

If we get someone top drawer (would that be Mbappe?) then we can just about afford to let one of these guys go (Ozil rather than Sanchez, preferably). But we'd still need to bolster CM with real quality - a monstrous fucking athlete.

We can definitely keep Sanchez. We can take advantage of his attitude, the fact that he hates missing games and he wants to play as much as possible despite injury. Recent Chile match serves as a reminder.

I can't see any scenario where this board and this owner will ever let north of £80m walk away next summer. Seems pretty daft to me too by the way.

Yeah as much as I want us to keep them I don't see the point of losing out on a big pay day for one season. And definitely not for Ozil who would certainly sulk for the year.
