That's a good point - Zidane is not necessarily a fair or good judge of a player's ability or potential.

He may prove to be in future but the decisions he has made in relation to his favoured players this season show a bias towards age and experience?

Whst i agree with your general sentiment I don't agree with the bit about Higuain. I was so excited at the time when it loomed like we were going to get him from Madrid. Granted not everyone was on the same boat at the time but you only had to look at the sheer number and wide variety of goals he was scoring for Madrid to see that he was always going to be a top class goalscorer. I was gutted when we missed out.

I don't rate Morata. Maybe I need to see some of his highlights or something but I've never felt with him : "oh, that's something special".

Similar to how I feel about Higuain even after he scored 5 billion goals last season.

Yeh but you don't have be too special to score goals in the PL.

Morata is big guys. Do not underestimate Real Madrid's bench. There's nothing else like it in football. I've been super impressed with Morata. Just a complete number 9. He's the closest thing to their new Raul. That said I feel for Zidane. Benzema does not score as many goals but he is an incredible team player as striker, and has a bit more sparkle than Morata.
Like I said earlier, the situation is ripe for us to test Morata and/or James as a way to strengthen team and excite Sanchez

Can't find a direct link, but Bild are running a story today saying we're offering Sanchez €20m a year (£335,000 a week) and Bayern are not willing to compete.

Well you'd have to think if Sanchez was offered the same from us and Bayern he'd choose Bayern. If we offer more then maybe he'd pick us. Its basically what United have been doing since they fell out of the CL.

Look, I think it's nuts, but if the calculus is you would rather
a) pay 15,5m per year for 4 years (60m) than
b) sell him for 50m, then replace him for upto 70m and then pay some guy 12m pounds a year for 4 years (net 68m), then I'm fine with it.

of course, if we had been more ambitious last summer, maybe we tie him down at 250k per week, and save ourselves 3m pounds a year 🙂

It seems like we're perpetually "caught on the hop" by trends in wages and transfer fees, and it's costing us vast amounts.

yep. we'll have to substantially beat any competing offer if we want to keep him aka the 'sheer desperation premium'

I think it's also similar to what Liverpool are doing with the likes Coutinho, offering him more money than other clubs would
