Serie A 16/17
Totti just scored his 250th Serie A goal (against Joe Hart, as it were).
Roma are playing poorly though. Falque, their own player on loan to Torino, has bagged a brace against them. They look certain to lose this game.
Terrible news for Napoli, Milik tore his ACL.
Not a full tear apparently although he'll definitely be out for the year. I'd hate to be a Napoli fan right now, looked like they got a proper Higuain replacement and then they lose during the international break
One of the transfers of the season wasn't he?
News from Icardi again
A late own goal from Samir Handanovic saw Inter fall to defeat by Cagliari at the San Siro but the day was all about Mauro Icardi.
The striker's relationship with the club's Ultras hit a new low as a banner was raised in the stadium during the clash on Sunday afternoon.
'You use a child to justify yourself and fling mud at us... You're not a man... You're not a Captain... You are just a vile piece of s***,' it read.
To top his woes the Argentinian missed a penalty in the first half and it was roundly cheered by the home faithful.
The passionate Inter supporters have been enraged by a passage in Icardi's new autobiography, primarily a section in which he talks about an fiery confrontation between himself, former team-mate Fredy Guarin and the fans in February 2015.
After a 3-1 away defeat by Sassuolo, several Inter players tossed their shirts into the crowd, only to see them thrown back as the travelling Nerazzurri support displayed their frustration at the performance.
'I am angry because I played so little. The fans start to shout: they call us to come over to their section. I find the courage to face them, along with Guarin,' Icardi wrote in his book, 'Sempre Avanti', released this week.
'As I get closer, I receive insults and abuse of every kind. Attached to the netting is a kid who calls me: he wants my shirt.
'Considering his age, he could be my son: I take off my shirt and shorts and throw them to him, as a gift. This kid is in seventh heaven and I am pleased to see him so happy.
'A head of the ultras jumps on him to take away the shirt and throws it back at me. This is when I start insulting him: 'Piece of s***, you are acting all arrogant with a little kid to show off to the rest of the curva (the Italian phrase for a section of seating inside a stadium)? Do you think you're hard?'
'In the locker room I am acclaimed as a hero, because nobody had ever faced off that way with one of the fan leaders.'
Another banner read that '100 goals will not erase the s*** that you are'
Upon the book's release, fans in the Curva Nord responded with a statement, incensed by Icardi's version of events.
'We don't want to go back over that day when his own team-mates hauled him back by the neck to demand a less arrogant attitude towards the Inter population,' it read.
'It is pathetic to read such things talking about us. In his book he writes: 'I am ready to face them one by one. How many are there? 50, 100, 200? OK, record my message and let him listen: I'll bring 100 criminals from Argentina who'll kill them where they stand, then we'll see.'
'He talks about helping little kids, then invents an incident that never happened to make himself seem superior to us, as if it weren't obvious to all that we are the only curva that helps kids design the choreography in the stands.
'You are finished with us. You're done. TAKE THE ARMBAND OFF, YOU CLOWN. Yes, that is what we demand.
He made a huge step as a player in the last couple months, looks absolutely nothing like the limited finisher of the last few years. Took Juventus apart pretty singlehandedly but quite clearly hasn't developed between his ears yet
What an idiot, he just signed an extension a bit ago as well
he is 23 and he has an autobiography? Is that normal?
Those Ultras are all morons. We should take Icardi away from all that nonsense.
I could live with that.
mohan wrote:he is 23 and he has an autobiography? Is that normal?
It probably contains more juicy stuff than the majority of all the footballer biographies out there too.
Icardi has turned into David Trezeguet's cousin this season. Not sure if he's going to keep it up, but it's an interesting development.
He has turned the fixture Sampdoria - Inter into his own derby dubbed the Wanda Derby. He's a complete idiot but (or rather because of that) his life probably contains more interesting anecdotes already than most footballers have after they retire.
setting aside these dumb autobiographies at that age (e.g., walcott's at 21), what's wrong with what he wrote if it's the truth?

I've read from Inter fans that his performance from Juve was his one out of a dozen performances. They said last game he was being selfish, not moving that much, and playing for himself. I think he perhaps has the skills/tools to play up to his potential like he did vs. Juve, but he needs to develop mentally.
Sums up his last game:
Samir Handanovic (44) had 22 more touches than Icardi against Cagliari.
Pep's probably wankin it over Handanovic's performance then.

I think that was part of the problem as those hooligans disputed his version.
For me, the dumbest part was the club sanctioning the part where he says he will bring 100 criminals from Argentina to kill them.
Seriously, where were the club lawyers?
Unreal finish Locatelli. This is the 2nd time he has scored a belter this season. Interesting player.
Not a single Milan player would get into that Juventus side. I guess they haven't sold off all their pride yet.
Milan has one of their best squad for a while though, probably since Zlatan left. Montella is a very good manager, expect them to finish top 3 comfortably.
Top 3 is a bold prediction, think it'll be Juve Roma and Napoli again. But Milan certainly look better than they did in the last couple seasons
Yeah, no way are they getting into the top 3 with that squad. I agree that Montella is a good manager though. I thought it was weird how many people were dead against that appointment. He's at least a full tier above the kind of trash Milan have hired in the last few years.
Milan's problems aren't down only to the manager, Mihajlovic seemed like a decent pick, Seedorf had them playing good football too during what limited time they gave him. Inzaghi was probably the worst manager I've ever seen, Sunderland under Moyes are more fun to watch than the horseshit he served every week.
Agree though that Montella is better than all of them
Inter are about to sack De Boer! What a mess, they probably will replace him with Pioli.
Reckon Inter are going to burn through a couple more managers before Simeone comes to save them.

I think we have a good chance of getting Simeone (when his contract is over), Inter would have to literally offer him insane wages to get him in their current state. I'm sure they would probably turn to Mourinho if he fails at Man Utd (and he'd probably fail at Inter since it's the worst team he's ever had).
Reckon Di Francesco would be an astute choice for Inter, he deserves a shot at a bigger club and bigger resources.
Di Francesco is a good shout, but I think he has too much sense to jump onto a project like Inter in their current state. It'll take a lot more than a new manager to sort them out. He's already got an average team with few expectations, and he exceeds all of them. There seems to be very little benefit in taking over another average team that comes with massive expectations at the same time.
Inter do look in terrible shape - lost to Southampton now in the EL.
From what i read, they were lucky to have beaten Southampton at the San Siro.
How the mighty have fallen but weren't AC in a far worse predicament a few years back?

Yeah, they've had really bad issues with ownership and management (Initial sale of the team collapsed, Maldini turned down the offer to become their director etc.). I think Berlusconi is still trying to finalize the sale of Milan. Hiring a good manager in Montella and playing the youth has been the reason why they're doing much better than previous years.
As for Inter, they got the money, but the management has been awful (apparently, De Boer didn't want Gabigol and they still bought him). There's been news about the Chinese owners being distant from the club and disagreeing with Zanetti and their director favoring Pioli. The advisor for the Chinese is Kia Joorabchian, who even made a presentation to hire Marcelino as the next manager (and the Chinese want Marcelino)! I think they hired De Boer because Kia was his agent.
Looks like Inter is hiring Marcelino. They should give their managers more time to build their style of football, not keep average and overpaid players, and actually play their youth. He should get more time since he was the owner's pick.

18 - #Belotti has now scored 18 goals in Serie A since the start of 2016, less only than Gonzalo Higuain (27). Song. #TorinoCagliari"
He's a really interesting player.

Looks like they went with Pioli. Wonder how long he'll last

Does this mean their games will soon be enjoyable to watch?
Meelan derby tonight. Trust you've nestled into your fave arm chair Klaus
at least he cut his hair!
I missed the game unfortunately, but wasn't surprised to hear that Suso scored again. Liverpool screwed up so badly there. I can't believe they let him run his contract down.
Suso has days like Sunday where he looks like a world beater in the making and then puts in non-performances for which he's lucky to be paid for, he makes Ox look like Sagna consistency wise.
Was a good derby, Inter deserved a point. Still don't think Pioli will survive there for long, nobody will as long as Simeone's shadow is over that club
His hattrick last season was amazing. Probably the best hattrick since Bergkamp.
Suso's hattrick was top class but not a patch on Rivaldo vs Valencia. Not even Bergkamp vs Leicester was as good as that one imo
That one's my favourite too. Rivaldo's final goal might be the best I've ever seen. Not just for the sheer skill and audacity but also how much it meant. It completed the hattrick, won the match, put Barca in Champions League, and it was in the final minute of the last game. I've only seen 3-4 other players reach the level he was at back then. Bloke was fucking unreal.
