Original price? Stones sold for a shitload, Mangala and David Luiz a few years back too. £35m for a 24 year old German international with the pedigree of Mustafi seems more than fair enough. I don't for a second think they were ever entertaining selling him at 25m.

Prices change 'everyday' Rex. You can ask in June and the club may ask for 10 mill and in August he may go for 30 and vice versa. While certain players have say a benchmark price, but for most others it literally could be anything. I don't think it is silly to suggest mustafi could have commanded anything between 20-45 million this summer.

Though saying we could have had him for 21 million in june (as some reports suggest) is a bit of a hindsight

I don't believe that. If they'd offered him for £21m and then asked for 35m there is no way Wenger wouldn't have thrown a strop and refused to pay. He hates people changing the price.

I certainly don't buy the original price theory. It's more likely we just got more urgent with our needs and decided to pay their valuation.

35m for Mustafi in any other window is pretty steep, in this window with the lack of quality CB it is a fair price and might prove a bargain. Bailly who is slightly inferior costs 30m mind you.

I don't think the price is too much. German international, couple of full La Liga seasons under his belt, premium age range for price, lack of better options. Price seems about right to me.

Wenger has pretty much confirmed this one is done, with the international break now coming up probably won't link up with the rest of the squad for 10 days
