Huge blow if Gabriel is out for a period but as others have said it is what it is. World Cup season, everyone is going to want to play to secure their place just as any of us would. This was the whole point of spending all the money in the summer - so the whole house doesn't fall down with one injury.

Well, it's not much of an argument when it's not true. I had thought FIFA paid out all wages for players injured on international duty, turns out it's not quite that.

Sensationalist headline but the upshot is we'll get about 80% of Gabriel's wage paid while he's off injured (not 100% because he earns too much).

Arsenal can be aggrieved about anything it likes, but Arsenal can control certain factors in the situation. These don't include whether Gabriel is called up by Brazil, but they do include how much rest he's had when he goes.

Gabriel can opt out of Brazil, but then I wouldn't expect him to.

So that leaves Arteta who could've rested Gabriel but instead played him for a total of 558 minutes on 18, 21, 26, 29 October and 1, 4, 8 November. More than twice a week over three weeks before the break. His understudy Hincapié played 169 minutes over the same period.

It's a bit like what Raylan says in Justified: you run into an asshole in the morning, you run into an asshole. You keep running into assholes all day, you're the asshole.

An injury here and there is part and parcel for any physical sport, it's just bad luck when it happens to your key players. If your key players keep breaking down season after season it's because of you.

We know Arteta believes the fine margins will swing this season for us. He isn't willing to compromise and lose any control, and in turn it catches up to him.

Gabriel didn't need to start vs Brighton or Slavia Praha, but he 100% didn't need to start vs both of them. All of us know the EFL game doesn't matter as much as keeping key players healthy for the league. It only becomes more asinine when you think he has to start that game and vs a weak Slavia Praha.

I'm not going to claim I was calling for Big Gabi to get rotated. No one was.

Yeah, it could've hurt the result versus Atletico if he had been rested, or against Fulham, Palace, Burnley or Sunderland. It definitely could have.

But now he'll likely be out for the NLD, Bayern, Chelsea, Brentford, Villa, Club Brugge, Wolves and Everton, so that's a bit of a bugger. So it would've been smart to rotate him knowing he'd be called up by Brazil.

We play the highest and most mobile defensive line in the league so it's not as if our centre halves are garden ornaments.

As for the injury crisis, we'd better be easing the likes of Ødegaard back over this upcoming period.

If he's going to be starting, I'd like to see him off on the hour, same goes for Gyökeres. Timber is also right on the edge of being crocked at the moment, Ben White needs to be used. Madueke I'm less worried about because Arteta has shown he knows how to rotate wingers playing the "width" role for us.

Watched Nagelsmann btw, and it didn't sound like he was talking about a setback for Havertz that had happened months ago; it sounded like he was talking about a recent development at Arsenal during the recovery. No one's gonna know for sure I suppose - we'll just have to wait and see.

We definitely overplayed Gabriel since his return from injury. There was absolutely no reason for him to feature in the Caraboa or in Prague (as stated by someone else above)

It's incredibly frustrating that we keep having to contend with these injuries and I agree that it's not bad luck. It's bad management.

I just don't see how Arsenal have the responsibility to prepare players for other teams who aren't even playing competitive games. Our games actually mattered.
