I reckon we're "trying".

Which means we'll field Giroud and Walcott all season.

We've "enquired about xxx but were told he was not for sale."

😆

I only have two hopes for the next season: we play some decent football at times and Wenger quits at the end of it.

We should put everything we have into signing Gabriel Jesus.

He's definitely the next "big thing", but Wenger doesn't work with young south American talent.

well, to be fair.. in England, it doesnt work that well since he isnt a regular on the national team... and we seem to have a particular problem getting a "special talent" visa for players. thus, they end playing in spain for 4 years and then released

(unless rules have changed?)

Yeah, the rules have been tweaked. If you pay more than £10 million (which he's guaranteed to cost) they automatically qualify for a special talent Visa. There's nothing stopping us, except paying premium fees for the best talents out there.

We pulled off Denilson from Brazil and Sylvinho too previously. Emiliano Martinez our GK, Wellington Silva, Joel Campbell, Pedro Potelho, Juan Jaimez, Nelson Vivas, Cabellero and Carlos Vela. Edu was 22 when we got him.

We also loaned that Mexican midfielder fora couple pre season games in 2012/13.

Sylvinho was like 27 when we signed him.

That's one underwhelming list of players to be honest. Edu is the only one who ever turned into anything useful during his time here. The rest of them either stalled in their development or spent years abroad and never got the chance here. Vela started to develop again once he was out of Wenger's reach. I can see Ray's point.

On one hand I mostly think the track record is poor because there isn't a huge sample size. Then again, there isn't a huge sample size because Wenger doesn't favour working with young South American talent. There used to be valid reasons to not gamble on them, such as the difficulty in obtaining work permits, but that excuse has been out the window for a while now. We both could and should go after players like Gabriel Jesus and Gabigol.

He said Wenger doesn't work with south Americans, he does. Not often but he has done so in the past.

That meager list of players shows that Wenger doesn't sign a lot of young south (or central) americans, which is exactly what Ray suggested. It also shows that we're not going for the big talents when we do spring to action. Vela is the only one on that list who was being head hunted by all the big European clubs.

If indeed that's what he was suggesting, then he's right. Wenger doesn't sign the superstar young players from S.America. He has signed a number in the past though. No often, but he has dabbled in that region before.

Considering South Americas rich heritage and calibre when it comes to football he's dabbled strikingly little in the past 20 years.

I'll be honest. I'm starting to get the slightest doubt today that Wenger is not going to do what is necessary to improve the team. I've seen the impoverished Dortmund bring in Schurlle, Dembele and Gotze to strengthen their frontline, and wonder what are we going to do? I would've happily taken Gotze, put him on a contract with range of 100-200k per week depending on personal output and taken it from there. 95% of me still believes Arsenal will invest adequately, but as I see teams in pre-season, little bit doubt sets in

City wants Gabriel Jesus and they will get him. We should just go for Gabigol but Wenger is too risk adverse.
