Am I the only one who feels quite sorry for Big Sam?

I remember he was all smiles when he got the job, it was the job of his dreams and to see it all end in 2 months is sad to see, appreciate he did wrong doing.

He must be feeling really embarrassed right now, it was only a few weeks ago his friends and family were congratulating him, he will prob go hiding and we won't hear from him. If I was him I would get on a talk show and try to re-frame this incident, he needs to apologise but also remain in control.

He is not the first to be witch hunted by the media.

It's got nothing to do with football at this point. You'd lose your job if you were telling unvetted third parties ways to circumvent fundamental regulation in whatever industry you operate in.

Yes it has nothing to do with football and neither has it got anything to do with exposing football malpractices. That's my point and is exactly what Wrighty said on Talksport. It's not about Big Sam at all at this point because many others have fallen victim to this press tactic. If you recorded the private conversations of any public figure, it won't be difficult to unearth loose language and potential rule break. The underlying principle of using sting operations to target those in the public eye is the problem and I'm sure privacy laws have been broken. The Telegraph won't care though. It's all about getting the story first and paying for the consequences later. No other major footballing country in the world resorts to this, especially when it undermines their national team. Most of them are fiercely loyal to their national team whether good or bad, whiles we treat them like shooting targets in this country, good for laughs and a good story. England will continue to fail at major tournaments until the media fully grasp the critical role they have to play. The next guy who comes in will be hounded and baited until he eventually fails, kick starting another cycle.

The fact that no major footballing country is critical of its sports teams and institutions is exactly the problem. That's why football is the most dirty, corrupt, backwards sport on the planet.

Not that the Telegraph cares about any of this. They are the worst kind of whores, I'm not disputing that.

On top of that, he was giving advice on how investors can circumvent the rules set up by his employer!
Basically, he is a greedy idiot. He makes three million pounds per year from the English FA to hold the most prestigious job in the country, and for 400k he was more than willing to do this.

The most ridiculous thing about this is that we're talking about Sam Allardyce. On a list over national team managers in Europe he'd be fucking rock bottom. If anything England will have a better chance of winning games now. It gives them a chance to appoint a proper manager instead of the guy who's wrecking most clubs he's put in charge of.

Curtis does this a fair bit with Allardyce's players. At West Ham, he either represents or has links with Allardyce, Kevin Nolan, James Tomkins, Jack Collison, Matt Jarvis, Andy Carroll, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Adrian. Look through his history and there is a fairly astounding pattern of players signing up to him from Allardyce teams. He also has a chequered past of his own, with an official warning from the Football Association after the 2008 investigation into Luton Town's illegal transfer dealings.

Morrison was not keen but, since then, his complaint is that he has felt under considerable pressure from Allardyce and Nolan to change his mind, claiming it is brought up on an almost daily basis. His grievance is that he wanted to go into training to learn and improve, not to have endless conversations about an agent he did not want to employ.

I didn't know about this, but this is an unfair position to put any young footballer in. How many other footballers must get the same treatment?

You're confusing two separate discussions. One is about the dodgy dealings within football (which Allardyce and several others are a part of) and the other is about the role of the media in wider society.

I am not at all and I'm talking about the latter. Anyone who thinks Big Sam was targeted to expose dodgy dealings in football is being naive. It certainly wasn't set up that way and the manager of the national team would actually be the last person they'd target if it was. Apart from being greedy almost everything Big Sam said is an open secret within football circles. The FA would be launching an enquiry otherwise. The Telegraph had one intention and that's entrapment. I think some of you need to look up the meaning. He was lured into a situation by individuals he'd known for over 30years and that's the saddest part of it. If he hadn't spoken about third party ownership issues, he probably would've put his foot in talking about other contentious issues which would've got him into trouble anyway. Like many others before him, he was doomed the moment he was caught in that situation.
