Jeff and Fortune are the kind of young talents we shouldn't even need to consider when we sign them. They are so cheap, their potential upside is vast and every big club signs tons of them every window. We have not done enough on this front at all, and is lagging behind all the big clubs in terms of poaching and scouting such talents.
What we are talking about in this generation of french talent is not being proactive enough when they broke through. It's fine when you miss them when they are very young, it happens. But when Dembele is available for 17m, you bite Rennes hands off. When Dembele is available on a free from Fulham, you snap him up straight away. We should even be looking at Sessessgnon from Fulham as well, but we are not even linked with him.
Klaus is spot on on this, and plenty of people has already mentioned this in the past 2 years. Varane, Dembele, Lemar, Coman, Mbappe, Mendy, Sidibe, Kimpembe, Umtiti, Kante, Rabiot, Tolisso, Griezmann... etc. That's a shit load of talents that we have either not made the required effort or reasonable money to acquire. This was bread and butter for Wenger in the past. He is just too reactive nowadays and it isn't good enough.
