the whole french back 5 looked bit dodgy. not so hot on mendy or sidibe. i reckon kos is needed to provide some experience ad leadership back there

Only a handful of times for Barca this season but numerous times for France, including last year's Euros. I don't like the look of him one bit. Very clumsy in the tackle, constantly badly positioned with suspect concentration. There were a dozen examples in yesterday's match alone. The first Kane goal was just hopelessly poor defending by him. How do you lose a guy in the box that breathes that loud through his mouth?

When Umtiti had played 16 games his record was 16-0-0, while they were 2-6-3 without him. They'd (undeservedly) have won the league if he was fit for more games.

Mbappe said today that Madrid have been trying to sign him since he was 14. Obviously what we have over Madrid is Wenger and his reputation with youth, but I don't think it was as easy as offering more money to Monaco.

That's not a slight on Umtiti at all. Kane is a world class striker who possesses world class movement inside the box.

i've seen this being touted. i think there's 0% chance of a club investing 100m in a player and leaving him at his old club, unless it's for weird statutory/legal reasons

Yeah, I agree. The whole point of spending that kind of money on an 18 year old kid if you're Real Madrid is to parade him. They'd lose out on the big initial chunk of shirt sales too if he was loaned out.

Vinicius don't have that same profile as Mbappe yet. It's a good move, by the time he is ready to join he will garner a lot of shirt sales.

Basically leave him there and grow like Neymar.

I agree. All I meant was that they could have done that with Mbappe a few years ago (I think that was the discussion going on in the thread above).

It's been a good game Clarence, but I'm sitting here and wondering why FIFA does this to players. I don't even buy the dress rehearsal idea. You're either ready or not, and besides FIFA should be lending you their 80 years of experience in organising World Cups. This tournament is just greed and abuse of stars like Cristiano and Alexis

Agreed, but I also think Confed Cup should be taken more seriously than a rehearsal. On paper it's a good idea, 7 champions and the host fight it out for a trophy. It only can mean more quality matches than the world cup (other than the Oceania Champion).

It should be made for prestigious by FIFA. This match is one of the better international match in recent years. The quality of passing by Mexico in between the lines was great and Portugal as usual dangerous on the counter.

It should be, but I don't think anyone treats it as a world championship of any kind, knowing that there is an actual world cup a year later.
