I don't know the ins and outs of this particular story, but to me it seems far fetched that police would be actively trying to get to Valencia like this if he was doing what he should.

Because we all know police are always to be trusted, especially in countries like Ecuador.

It's a far fetched and ridiculous situation whatever way you look at it, you can't derive any information out of the cops' behaviour here. How is it they were unable to detain him outside the stadium but were able to attempt arrest after he played 82 minutes, why is the golf cart driver not complying with the cops and why are there a dozen policemen in full attire lightly jogging after him in the first place.

Don't know, don't care. Honestly, he seems like a piece of shit to me. That seem far more plausible to me at this time, so I'll go with that for now.

Yeah, that sensible attitude seems a lot like you Rex

Yeah, the police are acting over dramatic, and attention seeking for the media, I'm sure they could have dealt with him behind closed doors.

You know what, Jones? We can't all be into conspiracy theories like you are. Yes, a healthy dose of skepticism is good to have, but it also helps to keep in mind that in most cases the more likely explanation is actually correct.

Yeah because reserving judgment when you do not know the details of a case is the same as buying into conspiracy theories.

not very surprising as he always looks for assists even when he is one on one with the goalkeeper as in this video. not the best of plays.

When someone says things about a person like you just did, I think it is correct to expect more than "I don't know the details and I don't care".

Also,I think it was the right decision by Özil to pass there.

I agree.

I don't really care about Valencia, and I don't care enough about the story to be bothered to look into it. A guy who won't pay alimony for his kid, who comes up with an elaborate, and frankly ridiculous, plan to 'escape' - yeah, I just call it as I see it. I also said 'for now' btw; if more information about this comes to my knowledge, I expect I will adjust my position on the guy accordingly. For now he seems like a tool and a piece of shit. This is also my last post on this subject because, frankly, it's quite tedious. 🙂

Well we know that the police were after him for not paying his child support. So unless you can prove the police are wrong I think its fair to say the guys a scumbag. The burden of proof is on those claiming he doesn't need to pay it.

He has scored 21 goals in the process too; that's basically the same scoring rate that Alexis has for Chile.

This Aurier fella is in the headlines non-stop. Quite a character. Goes and undoes his good will by making a "throat-slit gesture" at the Mali fans later in the game too...

Think he's an excellent player.

That sounds almost like a Savz post. You should be skeptical based on the fact that cops are lightly jogging on a running track in a packed stadium behind a bloke in a golf cart ffs.

That wasn't my point anyway. I'm saying "unpaid" child support can mean many things and not seldomly is it women trying to squeeze more money out of the fathers of their children, especially when the guy is rich

It's not like she just came up with an arbitrary number and blackmailed him on it; there are laws deciding how child support is calculated.

Bottom line is—and I agree with Qs and Rex on this—that if you don't pay child support for your own kid despite being able to afford it you blatantly don't give a shit about the kid. He gets zero sympathy from me either. It's one thing to be hounded by the police, but this dipshit deserves to be shamed in public.

The amount of alimony paid isn't necessarily decided by law, it's possible to decide the amount of child support paid every month just between the two of them. It's also possible for one of the two parties to break that understanding and as I know a couple cases like that I'm reserving judgment, doubly so if we're talking about a third world country like Ecuador.

Regardless, it's something agreed on beforehand and it's not like she can ask for more than the law stipulates. We're talking about a multimillionaire who isn't providing for his kid. You're playing the world's smallest violin here, jonesy.

I'm pretty sure she can ask for more than "the law" (since there's more than just one) stipulates, family law is a mess here in central Europe I'm sure it's the same in South America. And again Klaus, I said a couple times that I'm not arguing his particular case, just saying there's more than meets the eye when people talking about unpaid child support.

I'm not really interested in making theoretical excuses for someone who doesn't pay child support though. It seems perfectly fair to me to go after him forcefully; especially since he escaped again. I feel the argument has shifted from "there are good reasons not to trust the police" to a more sinister "there are good reasons not to trust women you've gotten pregnant" too, which I can't say I agree with at all.

I'd have to agree with you. Guy is an amazing athlete, and has excellent decision making all across the pitch. Can really get whip on the ball.

All his antics make him quite entertaining off the pitch to boot. Wonder if he'll burn his bridges or if he can keep it together in the long run.

That's neither where the argument was in the beginning nor where it moved to afterwards, at least not for me. My only issue was with the silly idea that anybody who's accused of not paying child support has to be a piece of shit, I know good people who dealt with accusations of that kind and had their life turned into hell because of it despite loving their children more than anything else.

Anyway back on topic, agree with Dula and Coombs. Aurier is an idiot but he's top class, can't think of any better right back right now. Does a great job at centre half and even as a winger too, big Arsenal fan as well. Classic Aurier against Mali btw, save a bloke's life after ten minutes, score a goal after 30 and threaten to slit the audience's throat a minute later 😆

so have i. there's plenty of scope for that system to be abused, whether you're rich or not.

don't know the ins and outs with this guy, but literally running away from paying CP doesn't paint him in a good light

Some extremely questionable tactics used in the trial.

Definitely, the guardian has a good write-up on it

That sounds almost like a Savz post.

Only if you are trying to say that a millionaire not paying his child support being chased by the police is the equivalent of an innocent man getting out of a car and being shot by the police. Although I'm sure that's not what you mean because that would be an incredibly stupid equivalence.

Totti's second assist tonight was pretty amazing:

His first assist was pretty good too:

El Shaarawy took that like a boss.

The state of that league

It's Europa League (which, despite its name, is a cup).

Neither Özil nor Sanchez included in the 30-man Ballon d'or shortlist.

There's Vardy, Payet and Mahrez though.

He left for MLS too early.

Perplexing the Sanchez isn't on the list. Kos and Ozil should probably be there too.

Hope the slight spurs them on for this season.
