Whilst I agree with you to some extent, I don't think there was a better choice out of the existing lot. Ideally we'd have had a general election but that was never going to happen but even then Labour aren't that different to the Tories these days.

Sounds like a deal was done to get her to back him over Johnson, when she did that Johnson was finished. Also Sunak needed to reach out to the more right wing of the party to keep them on his side.

Seen talk if Penny had pulled out earlier she would have got a good position as well....

Also my view from the outside looking in but then again when the alternative to the Tories is Starmer why bother. In the elections last year Germans ditched our version of the Tories after around 3000 years of them in power and managed to somehow get a government that will go down as the worst (so far) in post WWII history.

Similar story with Albanese down here, albeit not quite as bad. The small target strategy of the centre left leads to quite pointless governments.

Could be an incredible opportunity for a proper Labour opposition currently, but Starmer and co have ensured no such thing survives.

It would be easier (only slightly, but still) to accept such a vile person in this post if she wasn't so staggeringly incompetent.

And if you resign only to be reappointed a week later, then you haven't really resigned have you? I was away from work longer when I had covid in the summer.

It’s a story that broke in the Express so I wouldn’t call it particularly reputable.

Fwiw I think it's junk. Sunak's given himself a runway. The polling has improved from 'abject humiliation' to merely 'quite bad' but if they can hold that position for another year it'll calm the nerves ahead of election season. Braverman's proving to be useful bait and Sunak's deliberately keeping his distance which gives him a free run on the Budget which seems to be his main interest
