But the MPs must bear some responsibility for this too. Everyone knew she was going to be shit and still they put her up. And if they didn't know she was going to be shit, then they weren't paying attention.

Generous indeed, 2014 and the independence campaign for some of us.

Who's the money on for the next PM then? I think Mordaunt. Desperately in need of a general election though. This could be the end of the Tory party. They're so split it's difficult to see how anyone can unite them. I don't even think it's a case of just uniting a party anymore, someone needs to identify what they stand for first of all.

It'll be Sunak or Mourdant I'd assume. The mission at that point will probably then be to bring the poll deficit back down into single digits before the next election.

I think you're right about Mordaunt. I don't like her, obvs, but she dealt with the UQ quite well the other day.

Boris - I dunno... It seems mad to even think that he could make a comeback so soon, especially with the Privileges Committee coming up, but this is the party that put Liz Truss up for leader (and before him Boris, and Brexit etc...) so never say never#.

Seems impossible - Sunak and Mourdaunt will be marginally more popular with the electorate but the members don’t like them.

The Tories need to fracture into their component parts - their internal squabbles have ruined the country and are responsible for a lost half decade at minimum. So many hours wasted that could be spent elsewhere never mind the money.

if the thick of it ever came back, they'd be hard pressed to come up with storylines about UK politics more absurd than what has played out since 2016. you always wondered which Tory would be left holding the bag when the music stopped. hopefully this is the nadir, but these people seem hellbent on finding new lows

Boris supposedly has almost 50 backers already, another 50 and he's on the ballot. I think if it comes down to it Tory Members will vote for him over the others. His backers seem to have come out early, lets see if he can make it to 100.

This country is truly in the banter era.

They've confirmed that the choice will be put to the members so I think Boris will manage it and it gets around the awkward question of mandate. The guy is made of teflon.

Edit: Also why the fuck was there a 2 month leadership campaign when the whole thing can clearly be settled in a week.

He's still their best chance of winning the next election. Meanwhile Sunak is probably the most competent person left. Party > country every time for them.
