i'd take mkhitaryan over mahrez actually. they're about as productive as each other but mkhi can fill in a number of positions

And we need goals more than creation, Mahrez has the edge there. PL experience too, 2 years younger. I'd definitely rather Mahrez.

18 goals and 10 assists vs 23 goals and 32 assists. Not that I'd complain if we got Mahrez but I think a more balanced player like Mkhitaryan is more what we need. If we don't sign Vardy we won't get Mahrez.
At that point I'd want Sanchez as CF and sign Carrasco as the winger and Mkhitaryan / Gotze as the wide playmaker.
I'd probably offer LFC 20-25m for Sturridge.

id add workrate too. despite upping his workrate, ozil is still a passenger on defense. vardy, mkhi and alexis have a huge amount of energy and tenacity between them to compensate. that type of buzzing persistent presence up front would work well in the epl

After a day or two to reflect on the dashed hope of an early signing of this guy, I reckon we should pursue him.

He's a logical target for us—a good quality, relatively affordable addition who would be another piece of the puzzle. Giroud, Walcott and Welbeck aren't lethal enough for what we can produce creatively.

The targets from other leagues would be problematic or unattainable. I don't think we really want to pay Zlatan's wages or watch him fall out with the likes of Sánchez, and Morata is pricy, and with his lack of experience in England, arguably better suited to the rebuilding project in progress at Chelsea. To me, the other Premier League options are overpriced, injury prone or underwhelming.

You can take the fact we haven't pinned him down with a grain of salt. There was no pressing motivation for him to sort out his future in June. We're a logical destination for Vardy, and I think we should be taking the deal a bit further along the line to see if we can close it.

And I don't think I'd want Mahrez over Vardy.

Great point. Mkhitaryan has insane stamina and workrate.

Vardy ticks boxes on price, known qualities and experience. He's not world class but he's bloody good and I'm not sure we need him to be world class, especially if getting him instead of a much more expensive Morata (not a sure thing) or Higuaín (incredibly expensive, no resale value in a couple of years) means we can look around for a complementary wide player.

I also prefer him to Mahrez because I don't think Vardy can hide from responsibility behind being a creative player. We need someone who's on the hook as a scorer.

Now my main concern if we draw this out another month into July is—what's the backup plan? Sturridge?

In any like for like comparison Mahrez scores more and Mkhitaryn assists more. My point stands.
