It doesn't really, Tam. Our problem is now that two into one don't go, and we can't easily change that. There are not many world class strikers out there, and they're very, very expensive.
If we look at all the options that are genuinely up a notch and might be available, we've got Morata, Higuaín, Lukaku, and Zlatan. I think there are problems with all four from different points of view, and one or two of them are rapidly sewing up deals with other clubs.
However, our front three is actually two players short of champion quality. We've been playing Sánchez, Giroud, Walcott/Ramsey, and we could definitely go for both a striker and a wide player on either side—two half measures instead of one whole one, as it were.
Vardy addresses some of the major deficits of both Walcott (he has a spine) and Giroud (he has pace) and is a proven quantity.
Although Vardy may never scale last season's heights again, our setup would give him a great chance of doing so, and when you think about it, he'd probably be about as productive in real terms in 16-17 as any of the four options above, with the possible exception of Zlatan. And for the price at which he's reportedly available, we could still scour the market for a £30–40m wide player, leaving us with Sánchez Vardy New Guy (or inverted) with Giroud on the bench and Walcott sold on.
