Vardy is more of the type of striker I want here anyway. Quick, goalscoring instinct, agressive, lethal finisher and great movement. He's a good poor mans Suarez.

what do you base that on? Ibra is friends with Henry and I remember Henry saying he 'heard' Ibra wanted to join us. I suspect he must have heard it from Ibra himself given they are good friends.

I'd rather say it's Vardys fitness and consistency that sets him apart from the likes of Walcott. Theo's buried plenty of goals in the bottom corner in an Arsenal shirt but because of injuries and inconsistent play we could never hitch our wagon onto him for a serious title run.

I'm basing it on the fact that stories of Ibrahimovich and Mourinho wanting to link up again at United have been doing the rounds for months and it looks like it's happening. Ibrahimovich has also hinted several times that he already knew where he was going for months. I buy into that far more than a throwaway comment from Thierry on soccerAM.

Seriously though. Walcott has spent a career failing while playing with Fabregas, Ozil, Rosicky, Hleb, van Persie, Sanchez, etc., and suddenly he's a guarantee for 20 goals at a team that doesn't have this creative quality. Your objections to Vardy are compromised by your blind faith in Walcott. Be happy we have the top forward from last season joining us. This is like when Sir Alex took Robin from us.

I think Wenger was close to having a mutiny on his hands if he didn't get these signings this summer.

Theo has talked about the players needing a meeting organised senior players to pull together. The defense has criticised the attack and visa versa in public. Ozil and giroud have had snips at each other in the press. The atmosphere must be at breaking point for this stuff to be getting in the papers.

Xhaka is the leader to pull everyone together. And vardy will cheer up the playmakers.

Wanting to work with Mourinho and also being open to the idea of working with Wenger/living in London (with guaranteed CL) are not mutually exclusive, at least not in my opinion. He might have heard early doors Arsenal weren't interested which made his choice easier, who knows. I don't think Henry would just go on TV and throw out there a nonsense rumour about a good friend. But again, it's just my opinion (based on what I know of Henry) and I could be wrong. But anyway, this is no longer relevant, he ain't coming for sure.

The thing is though, for players like Walcott and Vardy, it's far easier to score goals in good counter attacking teams compared to possession based sides (or sides with slow patient build up). We have to change our style for Vardy to have any chance of success at Arsenal IMO

Vardy and Walcott are very different players, the only similarity is that they're fast. It's like saying Walcott would score as much as Aubameyang if he was playing for Dortmund.

Your slow style is dictated by having a lumbering center forward. Everyone else is very fast, and should be able to adapt to a more direct system very easily. Wenger knows how to coach counter attacking football, and Vardy can't play point the way Giroud does. Obviously our game will change.

Vardy will hunt the ball down and force mistakes out of defenders in a way Walcott never did. Even against packed defences that is a valuable quality to have in a forward. It's pretty clear he will work in our system.
