The comparison to Ian Wright seems so apt. Chance = goal.

MD you forgot the most important stat: Goals scored.

Don't think Vardy is like Wright. Never seen Wright play, but wasn't he more of a box striker? Vardy is more of a runner IMO

i know i know, stats dont matter, your eye test is the perfect evaluator of all talent in all leagues, i get it

I would give this some relevance if Leicester created even half as many chances as we do.

More than half those statistics are based on that.

Vardy beats Giroud in goals scored, a marginally better assist per 90 minute metric (Though they have the same assists-6) and of course who'd have thunk it that Giroud would be better in the air.

No, he wasn't just a box striker and he was miles better than Vardy.

Of course he was. Wright was a way more complete striker.

But there are similarities: both are late bloomers, clinical finishers and have can outrun pretty much all defenders.

Similar in that they're both old and play as strikers, yeah.

Ian Wright was on a whole different level when it came to finishing, touch, dribbling, heading; basically everything. I actually rate Vardy but there is no comparison to be made there.

They're both Winners with a killer's instinct.

i think vardy is actually okay. better than giroud probably, but hes a real short term signing. if we are planning on sorting our the mid term too, then fine, but this just seems odd. at least with kante he is young and you could sort of understand it. vardy is basically at his peak. its mostly downhill from here

People need to worry less about the long term. Most players we buy for the future don't amount to much in the end. We paid £16 million for Welbeck two years ago and that's money that we just pissed away. We could have just burned that cash in the stove instead. He will never turn into anything useful.

Paying £20 million for someone like Vardy and taking the 2 or 3 good seasons he'll immediately give us is brilliant business in comparison.

100% with this. We need to stop binning time and resources on player who seem in a perpetual state on potential and focus on those who deliver.

I've beem saying that for 8 years Evoh.

If he costs 20m this is a no-brainer. Massive upgrade over Giroud.

Fucking hell, what a surprise that is ... Dean just said its basically done.

Confirmed that deal agreed between Vardy & Arsenal, just paperwork & medical to complete. Should be done today & tomorrow. #afc #lcfc

Warming to this. Not my first choice of strikers out there we could realistically sign, but feel pretty confident we would be a much better team with Vardy instead of any of the striker options we currently have. Most importantly, it would mean I won't have to see another season of the game we have to play with Giroud at point.

Im warming as well. Mainly because he and Xhaka are absolute madmen. Just what we need.

Can't believe this is being sorted overnight. Where the fuck were you last summer Wenger you fucking wastrel?

I might have to cheer for England in the summer after all if this goes through.

At 20m there's no warming necessary, even if he's not your first choice. It's a bargain. It's 4m more than Welbeck and Chambers for one of the top scorers in the league and player of the season.

Is he capable of playing as WF, together with Giroud, would they compliment each other? If so, is he better at LWF or RWF?

Anyone think Wenger is pondering a return to a 4-4-2 with this signing?

The 4-4-2 question always raises the same issue, where does Ozil play? You can't have him as a wide midfielder.

I'd say second striker, but then we are back to a 4-5-1 in practice. It's a valid point.

Watch this and you'll be lovin it

I want a dastardly fellow upfront

😆 yeah I've suddenly got more interest in our games now with Jamie and Jack involved.

Indeed, it clearly shows what a fucking of money that was.

Only real concern with this transfer would be AW looking to use Vardy as direct cover for Welbeck & Walcott, and play him as a WF rather than CF.

9 pages in 24 hours shows you the value of this player.

It would be Arsenal's most audacious and ballsy signing since Ozil.

The swift nature of the deal makes sense, both the team and the player would want this to be done before the Euros kicks off.

That's some sensational finishing. Such a clean striker of the ball.

So you don't mind 'racists' or cheats after all ; )

Not feeling this signing, not when Ibra is joining a Europa league team for free. I'd have shipped out almost half of our team and brought in Ibra, James, and Mahrez/Gotze. Yes Ibra is a huge risk (due to his age) but we could easily play Alexis upfront should things not work out for the Swede. Our attack has been holding us back for years, we really need to go out there and bring in top quality talents/players - not decent/good/average forwards.

Vardy was great last season but as poor as Theo was for us, I believe he could have scored 20+ goals playing upfront in that Leicester team.

Don't know why people are getting hung up over Ibrahimovich, it's clear as day that we're not getting him regardless, he's obviously got his heart set on Utd and Mourinho.

Vardy is more of the type of striker I want here anyway. Quick, goalscoring instinct, agressive, lethal finisher and great movement. He's a good poor mans Suarez.

that would assume he was not injured half the season

Do we feel confident he will still be a top striker if/when his pace starts to go? He is 30 after all.

Theo wouldn't have the composure, confidence or the killer instinct to score at least a third of those goals.
