Right now we will finish fourth.

Sign Musafi and striker/mahrez we will finish 2/3rd.

Either way we won't finish 1st unless the striker is Griezmann or someone spectacular.

We just finished 2nd in the league, mate; up from 3rd and 4th in the previous two seasons. Hardly sounds like any version of death

yeah way too dramatic. probably was saying the same thing about yanited and then they went and made jose manager and signed a bunch of quality. arsenal is boring, nothing close to dying.

Finishing second cannot be passed off as true progress because we were worse off points wise than previous season gone by and were 10points off Leicester fucking City. This has been discussed to death. I genuinely believe we are going to be in massive trouble when Wenger eventually exits, be it next year or whenever he decides to conveniently jump ship, and the extent of the mess he's been masking is fully exposed. Stability is our only saving grace at the moment and once we lose this, we are coming down with an almighty bump. I have massive respect for the fans who still pay good money to go and watch this charade knowing that failure is inevitable.

But that's because the league was more competitive. A more competitive league would suggest fewer points for clubs.

Overall I agree with you though, we had a nice little spell over the past few years with a couple of trophies and a second place finish as City, Chelsea and United floundered at various times but there's been a pretty significant shift in approach by all the top clubs except ours. A CL place is likely but that's as good as it's going to get.

We ran second last year because the usual contenders all shit themselves. Still think we'll probably scrounge a top 4 spot this year but won't get close to the title, as usual.

My opinion isn't based on the law of averages, it's based on what I see the club doing relative to our competitors. I hope that you are right and I am wrong.

We will finish in our standard manner 2nd-4th depending on the mess ups at other teams. Most likely this is the last season of ozil and Sanchez as they would have wanted big signings and unless we win the league or go deep into the champion's league I can't see them signing away another portion of their careers here. Then we are back on the youth project game like the last decade never happened. Can't stand how annoyed i am going to be then.

We finished 2nd last season.
This team has made 70+ points for 5 years running (last year our point haul was weaker, but so was everyone else's due to league being very competitive)

We havent lost anyone (who matters)
We have added Xhaka
We are replacing our injured CBs with better ones
If we add a an attacking 'madness', we will compete for 1st

We're stronger than last season as it is, plus we will still add to it. We will certainly compete this year.

Stronger on paper maybe but with Mertesacker out for most of the season we have basically lost one of our starting centre halves. That issue needs to be resolved if we aren't going to regress. Welbeck out for most of the season means we also need another striker if we aren't to be weaker up front than last season.

Other than that I kind of agree with you though. Whether we challenge will depend a lot on the changes at City, United and Chelsea but I doubt we are in danger of missing the top 4.

We're stronger than last season as it is, plus we will still add to it. We will certainly compete this year.

Problem is that it isn't fixed as in 'we are the same as last season's we are a year older in some key areas and others have strengthened significantly. I don't see anything other than another season we two critical issus. Lack of clinical finishing and a back line that is liable to concede goals, particularly in the early part of the year.

Evidence suggest we won't get either issues resolved until another one arises. That will be when ozil and Sanchez are sold on.

Welbz is out for exactly as long as he was gone last year, so its exactly the same.
Mertesacker is a loss atm, but once we replace him with Mustafi, we have upgraded.
Gabriel is shit, so whoever we bring in as a stop gap (or if we let Chambers be 3rd choice) - its the same.
Xhaka is a HUGE improvement.
Plus, im expecting stronger seasons from guys like Ramsey, Ox and maybe even Walcott. They cant be worse than what they were last season. Plus, Wilshere.

So i'd say we have certainly improved.

Now all we need is that 'madness' to become true or at least someone decent to be added into the front line and we can compete.
