We are significantly stronger in midfield, but standing still elsewhere.

I think we'll remedy our forward problem by deadline day.

A stronger midfield isn't going to move us if we don't add goals. All our rivals with the exception of Leicester look stronger than last season. We need at least 2 more significant additions to even compete.

I take it you rate Xhaka highly then, Cap?

Who do you fancy us getting? Can't think of someone with the requisite quality that's also within our reach.

Not really, but Elneny/Xhaka versus flamini/busted arteta/busted rosicky is no competition at all.

We may not get a striker, but we'll get someone in the front line. Until this mahrez story broke, I was convinced we had an ace up our sleeve (I'm not saying who), but if Mahrez is legit, that's probably gone.

Yes it will. Last season, we were so often lacking goals because of our messed up midfield balance. Now that we have this sorted and we have added a great deep passer, it will open up new ways for us to score.

Thats not why we lacked goals IMO. I think we lacked goals because we lack attacking talent. Giroud, Sanchez and Walcott are the only real goal scorers in the team and Walcott was in the worst form of his career. That has very little to do with the midfield. If anything I think the reverse was true and that the lack of a quality front 3 made the midfield look worse.

I am happy to have Xhaka though, don't get me wrong there. Its just that without more quality ahead of him its very hard for him to lift the team, especially while he adapts to a new league.

I get that we lacked attacking talent and that some of them were out of form, but ill maintain that the main reason why we couldnt get more out of them, was because of the awful midfield balance - Coq being useless on ball, Ramsey hogging too much and doing too little with it. We have now completely changed the structure and dynamic of our midfield with Xhaka + Elneny. They will reshuffle the ball and keep us ticking all day long while Mesut pulls the strings for the boys up front until they bang it in.

This club's ambition is to finish in the top 4 every season and ultimately this drives our transfer strategy unless injuries force our hands. We had more chance of signing Vardy than Mahrez and I think the whole Mahrez rumour is a bit of a hoax. The squad at it stands is just about good enough for top 4. We might sign a CB and bring in a cast-off attacker for numbers but that's it really. This all has a familiar tale to it.

He had vardy which I believe helped mahrez. Giroud will not be enough. We need a striker even if we get Mahrez is what I am saying.
