But that is literally the definition of character, or rather a lack of thereof. What you're talking about is quality. It's easy to win when you're good enough.

I'm really not taking about quality and context is important. For various reasons Mourinho lost the dressing room, alienated certain players and it had a cascading effect. We have no such issues at this club unless you believe there are and our players are hiding it well. Once managers lose the dressing room, performance inevitably drops regardless of quality. It has little to do with strength in character of players. In fact it happens in most professions. Anyway I think this discussion is veering wildly off course.

I've never seen anyone lose the dressing room like Mourinho did last season. I'd argue that is very much down to the character of the players. You can't have it both ways. You can't on one hand credit them for being good enough to win the title in 13/14, or for their excellent winning mentality and work ethic under Conte, and then ignore that exactly 12 months ago they were statistically the laziest team in Premier League and well on their way to get relegated. "We didn't like the coach so we didn't feel like playing" is a child's argument, not a grown man's. Not a single one of them stood up to be counted when their club needed them.

When it really comes down to it, Chelsea are back to looking like champions because their players have more quality than ours (and yes, the same goes for their manager). It's not because of character. It's due to resources.

Mourinho left Madrid in a mess,left the squad in 3 camps. Only difference with Chelsea is they didn't drop down to mistable but the atmosphere was at least just as toxic (with certain players clearly not playing for the manager). There's a precedent here and there's one common denominator. It's Mourinho, the cunt.

Oh and by the way, he's already started alienating certain players at Man United 😆

Give it time and we'll soon have another Madrid/Chelsea all over again.

Yep, if Chelsea was an isolated case, then the argument about Chelsea players lacking character would hold. It clearly isn't and as you say, we've already seen signs of this at United.

Have to agree with Tactics here, I won't hold it against anyone if he doesn't feel like playing for Mourinho. Some might even have tried to give 100% but were unable to because their manager was constantly publicly humiliating them.

We are two quality players/positions short of becoming true contenders.

What Wenger does over the Jan tran/summer windows will be a strong indicator for where we are headed as a team.

We almost certainly won't buy in January unless we start shipping players out (or pick up crippling injuries) which is unlikely too.

I've zero time for Mourinho but I don't agree at all that the players who ceased to put in the effort for him are of good character.

He was the man who put the conditions in place for that same team to win the league the previous season, their massive egos in considering the fans and club secondary to their issues with the manager shows them in a very poor light I think.

Chelsea can win with the players that they have, the obsession with the January signing does my head in.
Not once can I recall a January signing making a significant, telling, title winning impact over the months that directly followed the signing.

The only thing we can say with any certainty is that there is no correlation between January transfer activity and subsequent league performance. None at all. Zero.

Hardly. An astute signing in January can determine if we can push on to win the title.

That's just a dream scenario that a lot of people accept as fact.

Season after season of proof that January signings make no discernible difference to results and certainly no evidence that players signed in January by City, Chelsea, United and even Leicester played any decisive part in them winning the league.

The ingenious and wise signing that would somehow tip us onto a title winning course is down to chance, pot luck, good fortune, an alignment of the stars - and yet it's constantly stated here that it's "all" we need to do.
