Chelseas form is totally unsustainable and they have a tougher schedule over the next month or so. They'll drop points. I do think we need to be clear by a few points by the end of jan if we're going have an actual shot at this

Just watching us yesterday makes you realise this team just ain't equipped to win the league. Too many pussies in the team who are seen as integral, like Özil and Walcott etc. They lack the character and fight to stand up and be counted when we need them to.

Can't be just down to Ozil and Walcott when we have seen this every year for 10 years, across a period where the squad has been turned over thrice. This manager ain't equipped to win the league.

Away losses are fine in general. It's the dropped points at home that is hard to take and it has always costed us the title challenge.

FWIW, we have already dropped 8 points from winning positions this season, 2nd highest in the league.

^^That's mostly covered by two games - Liverpool and Everton. Otherwise we've been very consistent and I think we've had some good fortune too which is why the Everton loss doesn't worry me as much. Our defensive patterns worry me though. I'm just not convinced about Gabriel and Koscielny resorts to too much high risk defending. At the start of the season, I thought we'd be vulnerable at set pieces but we kept a very good defensive shape which nullified the threat. Mustafi's injury has probably come at the worst possible time.

This might make harsh reading for some but I think it is absolutely true. To elevate ourselves from a very good team to a championship winning team, we need our players to be consistently resolute and show character. Unfortunately the players you mention are prone to going missing when we need them the most. Wenger also needs to deviate from some of his old habits, like the predictable 70mins substitutions. I've always said that in the Emirates era, Wenger has put together just one team capable of winning championships and that was the 07/08 team.

Even winning against City this weekend won't cheer me up in a big way... it would be such a huge win but we'd still likely be far off Chelsea.

This Everton game has royally fucked me off.

City have been doing nothing for some time and are 7 point off, not sure we have been that good either for a good month. Chelsea have a good run coming up after playing spurs until we play them, massive huge game. If they keep winning games to grind out results then they will win the league as no one else looks capable of sustained form and are always liable to a stupid loss. Each of Liverpool, city and us have gone through those issues already.

Well they stopped playing for Mourinho and magically picked up form when Hiddiink took over. Completely different situation.

The only player at Chelsea who fits the bill for fighting character is Costa. Hazard, etc are all just as flaky as our flakes.

Completely agree. Chelsea have won 10 in a row because they've found a system that works and their best players are fresh and bang in form.

The majority of that Chelsea team have won the league before. I think that makes a huge difference. Until our players prove that they can last the distance without caving in their strength in character will continue to be up for debate.

I also think it's a bit disingenuous to use last season to question their strength in character when it was clear certain players had issues with Mourinho and visibly stopped playing for him. Whether this was right or wrong is another debate all together.

I do think Chelsea will come unstuck at some point this season because there are flaws in the system they are playing and teams just haven't been able to fully exploit this yet. City certainly should've beaten them.
