This would be more in line with the sort of transfer I expect us to make in Jan - I don't expect us to spend top dollar on someone like Mudryk.

Play someone like Jao Felix behind/with him as CAM/SS in a 4231/442?

We aren’t changing the system. The 433/55 is fixed. It’s the default system we will play

What you are more likely to see is someone like Marcus Thuram who plays both left wing and striker equally well. I think he would do really well in our system.

Agreed. I think Thuram is the more developed role model for Martinelli in that dual capability.

Thuram looks more like he'd be an upgrade on Nketiah to me, insofar as he'd occupy the same role in the squad

One thing I'm struggling to wrap my head around at the moment is how we offer new forward signings playing time with such a settled front three. Drop any of our current starters and a lot gets lost.

There are so many games. One more incredible forward would still get toms of minutes. Especially next year. You’ve seen how hard the Premier League is. Top teams struggling against Brentford, Leeds etc. you want to be able to rotate and outplay all these teams, not leave it to chance with Nelson and Nketiah. This is what another top forward enables. We’ve been fortunate this season with Europa. Next year we will have 2-4 tough champions league games as well. Having another elite forward goes a long way.

Yeah, the Champions League will motivate a few players, for sure.

It all only works with a strong team ethic and the sense certain roles are changeable, and players have to be versatile. If we could sign or develop players of the calibre and professionalism of Tomiyasu or White, but for forward positions, we'd be in a good place.

Thuram is apparently very much a "collective mindset" type of player, for what it's worth …

If we have another good forward Jesus will be rotated more frequently according to the opponents. Same goes for if we had someone lime Mudryk on the wings.

We are seeing the same players week in week out because their backups are either injured or not that good

Pretty much. Of the back-up forwards, only ESR is really fit for purpose here. The other guys are late subs, not rotational starters in the league. And the more we are in contention for the title, the less viable guys like Nelson and Nketiah become for regular starts.

I like what I have seen of Nelson against Brighton. That swagger and tekker is back. Hope he continues with that confidence because we would have a proper player on our hands
