Some interesting options both as free agents and potential cheap buys in Jan.
Must admit I have a soft spot for Ceballos with Partey as DM, rather than alongside Xhaka as twin pivots.

I just think he's another like Xhaka and would benefit from playing as a free #8 rather than as part of a double pivot next to Xhaka.
IIRC he made his rep as CAM/#10 before he went to RM. At 26 I think he'd be a cheap squad option. Technically he was good enough but he was not a DLP.

This would be more in line with the sort of transfer I expect us to make in Jan - I don't expect us to spend top dollar on someone like Mudryk.

I'd love this - have been a big fan of Thuram for a long time now. My big worry with him would be fitness - had a significant muscular injury last year I think?

He had ligament damage that kept him out for over a month but nothing serious as far as I remember. Would be a great addition, looks back to his best and one of the few players who can play CF and on the wing equally well

Thuram would be a fantastic signing, especially at that price. Would be a steal.

Kessie would be perfect to add and rotate with Partey. Quality wise, he is a grown up signing who would be ready to contribute straight away. I would still sign Danilo as well.

The way we bullied Chelsea, reminded me of the Vieira, Gilberto, Edu days. Xhaka, Partey, Kessie and Danilo would be going back to that blueprint.

The problem I have is that, had Kessie joined us on a free it would have strengthened us already and we would have saved on a fee.

I have a major issue with Barcelona now charging a big fee for him when they got him for free 4 months ago. Would depend on how reasonable the fee would be. Anything over £30 million and I would leave it, especially as he remains rooted to their bench.

My issue with Kessie is that he and Partey will both be away for the same stretch of time every alternate year (I have the same issue with a long-term wishlisted player of mine, Anguissa, who I have been wishlisting from his Fulham days). I'd rather want to get someone there who can reliably take over for those 2-3 months - my favourite is Marcos Llorente for that role.

Didn't know they were looking at selling Kessie, but whatever fee he's worth doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Barcelona got him on a free.

By itself it doesn't but considering how we gave them Auba for free, paid his wages plus they got 15m or whatever for him six months later this paying them for Kessié would sting twice as bad

The problem with buying a player who has recently moved on a free transfer is that the fee that wasn't paid tends to be built into the wages.

I like that his strengths are his dribbling and key passes, but my biggest negative is he doesn't improve our goal scoring as he's primarily a provider and not a scorer.
