Is Ramsdale actually shit? I know slamming every single thing Edu and Arteta do is all the rage, but have many of you guys actually paid real attention to this guy, given the shit team he plays for, more than once or twice?

The media and blogs with the negative hyperbole has done an absolute number on people. The level of anger is nuts.

5th biggest wage bill, we go through a rebuild and we finish 8th. With 2nd in the league form since Christmas and people are hysterical with negatively.

The top 4 teams spend absolute fortunes on CBs all the time, we buy one and people loose their minds about it. It's nuts. We don't have a top CB to build around. Gabriel is super raw, Maris linked with turkey. I like him but he's not 100% on that ankle. Chambers has never looked like a passable CB. Holdings ok but real are unlikely to come in for him. He's one of those guys without a ton of talent that works really hard. Saliba that plays for French U21 who's everyone's favourite thing to losse their minds about. Even though they know almost nothing about him apart from he's decent in the French league and great on the ball.

Who cares about the media. Ramsdale is shit. I have said it from day 1 few months ago when he was first linked.

yep, finishing 8th and putting in 2 of the worst performances of the season in the Europa semis has nowt to do with people 'losing their minds'. it's the nasty media hoodwinking people. please. the media have been completely forgiving and protective of the current regime

and the gripe is blowing that much on a defender when there's other gaping holes in the team. if we end up cutting corners in midfield for example, you'll be the first one in here blaming individuals and saying our midfielders aren't up to it, and overlook the daft recruitment that created that situation

Exactly, the same guys who also signed Mari and who now look to spend our 3rd highest fee ever on a centre back with 30 top flight games under his belt.

The whole argument doesn't hold water and is a lot more hysterical than what speedy is accusing others of. We're third not second since Christmas, and just two points ahead of United who are 6th, with just 37 points in 20 games ffs. Why start looking at our form since then when Arteta has been in charge for a full year last winter? Why ignore all the poor games and shit form, the cup defeats against inferior teams?

If anything the media and few blog pieces I've seen have been positive on Ramsdale, my view on him is purely on what I've seen and formed well before we were ever actually linked with him.

It's absolutely ridiculous and one of the only few times I have seen in football to ignore an entire season and full results just to fit the narrative. Is like selecting a group stage result of a cup run etc.

I think most of the blogs are much too positive and optimistic, it borders on delusion given the way the last 2 seasons have gone.

In what sense? We signed Mari on the cheap who's proven to be a really good back up, we signed Gabriel who's now our starting LCB, we're now signing Ben White to be our starting RCB. Mustafi, Sokratis, Luiz, Mavorpanos have made way while Saliba has gone out on loan to get more experience.

You may disagree with so much emphasis being put on the defence and the decision on Saliba, but there's very clearly a plan and they're executing it according to said plan.

Probably there's a sense that we are signing too many CBs and it's true statistically. We have signed the most CB amongst all the clubs in entire Europe since 2016.

You're right though, there's an emphasis and the plan should be good as long as we do strengthen other areas that's more urgent than defence. If not that we are definitely pissing away resources.

Guys reel it in a bit. Pretty much everyone was excited by the signing of Gabriel. He’s young with potential to improve.

Ramsdale is clearly not shit either. Maybe not at the level we’d want though.

Signings like Partey and potential White are 100% a step in the right direction

Gabriel still has upside, I wouldn't write him off after 1 covid hit season. he was pretty damn solid until getting injured/sick
