If we can get a top player or a player that can become a top player then I'm all for it.
It's not like we have great options at centreback either. Gabriel is a good player, but who else? Holding and Chambers are mediocre, Saliba has gone on loan to Marseilles - which says something about his current level. There's no one else.
I also think it's possible to sell in the other positions to enable a purchase. With the way transfers are structured, it's more important we shed players on big wages than necessarily get large fees for them. Leno, Bellerin, Xhaka, Willian and Lacazette probably account for about £600-700k/week between them. Get them out and we can afford the upgrades in their positions, especially if, as with Ben White, we're looking at younger players that won't earn huge money.
White looks great, just what we need at the back in terms of speed and smart front-foot defending, and he's probably on £75k/week or something, way less than the likes of Luiz and Mustafi were on.
I hope we can find players in those other positions with a similar profile.
