Yeah, 8 million is actually a really good fee. That's right about what he's worth imo.

Now that Xhaka is staying I think someone like Berge would be a little pointless to bring in though. He'll only take minutes that we should put into player development. Same with Elneny - I like the bloke, but we have made our choice and he's not it. The bigger picture has to involve giving Lokonga and Willock a chance to grow. They'll be better than Berge in the future anyway and they're probably better in the here and now too.

Elneny has a year left. If we are smart we absolutely need to sell him, put Lokonga and Willock as reserves and sign another good CM. Elneny is absolutely pointless this season with no Europa and we have better young players to blood.

Berge beats the press, he's slow as toffee so f**k knows how he does it but that has a huge value in a side nowadays. I haven't seen enough of him to know if he can do it against the top clubs. I'd see him as back up to partey rather than xhaka. Most top sides even city or pool if you can beat the press they're in all kinds of trouble. He is slow though so i cant see arteta signing him.

Why exactly Arsenal felt it necessary to give the midfielder an extension, when he still had two years left on his current deal, remains unclear. But the net result is that the major central midfield addition Arsenal had been targeting this summer will not arrive.
