Yeah, Mackey was always the bad guy.

They were all bad. And they still ended up doing a lot of good. The point of The Shield was to show that nothing's black and white. What made the show so interesting was the way it tried to answer the question: "How much are you willing to compromise?", both collectively as a show and from each character's individual perspective, without offering an overly simplistic moral solution to the problem. It was never a show that had any clear protagonists and antagonists to begin with. What I found most interesting was the way Shawn Ryan himself notoriously refused to budge for anything or anyone during the production. He knew exactly how he wanted to tell the story and he did it to the letter. It's probably the most uncompromising show that's ever been aired.

Aaron Sorkin could learn a thing or two from Ryan. I love the West Wing but the high horse riding, preachy, morally pure and superior characters were really annoying for me.

The way I remember it, Vic Mackey's intentions were always good, be it killing Terry Crawley, the Armenian money train and what happens later on in the show, even the penultimate episode. He cared about the team but the one thing he'd sacrifice the team for was his family.

I guess I identified with Lem and Ronnie alot. The strike team was the closest thing they had to family, and for that reason they suffered the most by the bs maneuvering of Vendrell and Mackey. Once Vendrell started his own family, I knew the writing was on the wall.

Yeah, Lem and Ronnie were my favourite two too. Especially Lem.

Recent episodes of Breaking Bad and Entourage have been pretty meh. I feel that Breaking Bad is building up to something huge with Jesse though and can't we just have the entire Entourage show around Ari Gold now? I think the rest of the characters have run their course.

The latest episodes of Breaking Bad have been depressing as heck. Still good but something has to spark this season back to life

Me and the missus taking a break from Breaking Bad, no pun intended, until season four is well on its way. Hate waiting a week for the next episode!

Started watching Boardwalk Empire. I am a big Buscemi fan, and so far it seems promising. A lot of characters, but starting to get to know them now. Buscemi is, as expected, brilliant.

Watched the first episode of Breaking Bad's new season last night. A very welcome return, that scene in the room, you know with the thing and... wow, just badass!

Don't care for it either so far. Think the writing has been really poor in the first three episodes.

Don't you just wish someone would kill Skyler? This weeks episode was good but there were some pretty dodgy parts. The whole oh "I bet he'll call", "no he wont, its been hours" ring ring "oh there he is" stuff was just pathetic.

Had already well and truly lost its way last season. Unless they find something genuinely new for the characters they might as well kill it.

It's not just me then. I thought the slide started last season after Hanks run in with those mexi hitmen, the tension just kind of dropped out of the narrative. Hopefully bringing him back into the fold will up the tension level.

The whole car wash storyline is utter dross.

I gotta say though, watching any television programme one episode a week is a whole different experience to clocking the entire series in a short space of time. That's the main thing I realised from this season's Breaking Bad.

I'd kill to watch the entire season at once. I just can't wait (even if it's bad)

I always wait, for every drama. There's no way I'll do it piecemeal - not with them putting cheesy cliffhangers at the end of practically every episode. A season's much better consumed in a 2-3 night binge.

@Gazza and Qs - The fundamental problem with the show is that Walt's descent is pretty much complete now. If I was writing the script I'd change the tone completely - instigate a massive crisis in the dramatic status quo (e.g. Walt causes the death of either Jesse or his whole family) - and then make the rest of the show about Walt's slow journey to total redemption.

It'd rate terribly but at least it'd be literature, and since the show's only themes are ethical behaviour and family that's all the material they have to work with.
