Damn. Looked forward to the new season! The ending of the last season, with Will finally seeing Lecter for who he was, I just wanted it to continue!

Yeah. They were planning five or six seasons originally, I think, but HBO cancelled the show so they had to wrap it up early.

What a fucking shame to see Walter White's wife at the start of the second season of Deadwood. How can I possibly not hate her right from the off?

No, she's awful in Deadwood, less simpatico than Skyler in my opinion.

I never understood the hate Skyler received personally, but it's interesting that so many seemed to dislike her face much more than Walt's. Anna Gunn was the only actor/actress involved in the show who received death threats too because people objected to the character. She wrote a pretty good column about it in some paper (New York Times possibly?).

No, I agree, I never had the impression she was a particularly awful person. However, the show invites the viewer into Walt's repellent moral framework so there you go.

On the other hand, Bullock's wife in Deadwood I found pretty unbearable.

She had a sanctimonious aura about her, which is never something that goes down too well. She also had an affair which never goes down too well either. The way in which she deals with the issues she had to deal with didn't invite much sympathy.

Certain sorts of men who watch TV shows about anti-heroes always hate the wife. People despised Carmella Soprano too.

I always liked Carmela, I was sympathetic to Skyler and I've always disliked Betty Draper.

Pretty much. Betty's probably the best written of those three as well, you can see exactly how she ended up being the spoilt brat/ poor mother she is. Didn't stand a chance after her relationships with her father and Don.

It's a shame Megan's nowhere near as interesting.

I liked Carmela as well. It was Tony's restaurant owner freind's wife that was annoying.

The fact that Carmela and Skylar gets so much hate is a sentiment to how great those shows were and how attached you felt to Tony and Walt respectively. I don't think the characters are very similar though. If you remember Carmela with fondness, it's been too long since you've watched the show.

It doesn't follow the movie though. It's more of a new story set in the same world. I've got a very soft spot for that northern winter environments personally.

Did you see the latest episode of Fargo, Tim? They finally revealed the connection to the movie.
