Great shout. In my mind, I could totally see a situation where Xhaka is sold on this summer, especially if we do end up - gulp - winning the title. He's under contract, his stock has never been higher, due to his age we're not going to get mega millions for him, but will be in a much better position than two years ago. The one thing that prevents me thinking of it as a fait accompli (okay, two, the title is far from guaranteed) is the regard Arteta, and the group, hold him in. But I think, and it feels really harsh to pick on this one moment in a generally brilliant display, that heavy touch when in on goal on Sunday shows his limitations in that advanced midfield role. Emile, for example, would have buried that without breaking stride.
I'm not going to cry if we don't sell him, he's proved his worth, but it does feel like we're about to evolve beyond him - as we clearly have KT.
As for Eddie, I was pro him getting a new contract - and that decision was vindicated by his last minute winner against United. However, I think the decision to be made now, given the level that Jesus has lifted us to is, can Eddie get there? I think we all know that's unlikely. And it might also be unlikely for Flo Balogun, but I genuinely believe that Balogun is more likely to.
My cousin Josh said of Eddie last week "he feels like he's destined for Crystal Palace" and whilst I think that's a little harsh, I'm not sure he's far off. But we should be able to sell him for enough money that the contract decision last summer is paid off.
