I'd say it is more difficult for everybody, because the other so called 'top teams' have the same problems. This is less about Arsenal IMO, and more about the overall quality of the league. With the spending power of every team in the PL these days, you have very good players playing even for the bottom teams. That is not how I remember things from 10 or 15 years ago.

Does sound like it based on Wenger's troll face, Ranieri's remarks and links to Chelsea seeming to dry up. All these reports flying around but nothing entirely concrete.

It's funny we are worried about a Chelsea team without CL football rivaling us.

because having CL is not all that important, particularly in England where 20 of the world's 30 richest clubs reside. players who care about Champs League can always justify not being in it for one year by taking a contract with a club they believe will qualify.

additionally: Arsenal don't do anything in the Champions League anyway, and are always the bookies' favorite to fall out of the top 4 every season.

I'm not worried about Chelsea particularly, but of course there's good reason to assume they might bite on one of our transfers with some stupid offer, that's how they operate and they've done it plenty of times before.

That is the truth. i think players also look at Arsenal and see that we have no ambition. A couple of signings in January could have won us the league and no out field signings in the summer don't go unnoticed by other clubs and players.

Chris Sutton had it right on Monday. The money for top 4 is all that matters to the club. Our good players used to leave, now we can't even attract them above Chelsea and United who are out of the CL this year. It's pathetic!

I don't get how it's embarrassing that players pick £££ over CL football. Most players don't enjoy football it's a job. It's the most criticised profession in the world where else would a simple mistake be analysed on tv replays, half time, full time, motd, forums, Twitter, club via video analysis, managers, fans in thr street. They get taken apart do you actually think they can still enjoy the game like they did a kick about when they were younger?

I said at the start of the season uniteds money will get them players people argued . . . And agreed to wait and see. Now we've seen.

Nothing talks louder than money and that's not just in football.

Very true, Speedy. I'm not sure why people really buy into this Champions League myth. If that were the case, then folks would all go play for the 2nd and 3rd teams in France and Italy, because those would be pretty easy to get into and guarantee Champs League football. No. The players want to be paid. These guys receive a senior corporate manager's annual salary every week. Why wouldn't you maximise on that as much as possible? It gives you untold opportunity (pink Bentleys) and the hope of life-long financial security (if you don't buy too many pink Bentleys)

If that were really the case it wouldn't be guys like Pelle and Gervinho going to China.

People have different mind sets. If I were footballer with a very short career and already with more than enough money to retire,live a luxurious life and give plenty away to boot, I'd probably choose to win or at least play at the highest level. Personally, in my actual career, I priorotise staying close to friends and family and having a relatively short working day (9-5) over earning more money and having my career consume me.

We can win it equally as much this season. Let's not pretend that the situation has vastly changed from last summer to this.

well it's not a 0/1 game, is it? it's a personal choice.
people weigh up their options. you obviously want to win things. nothing feels better than winning trophies. but only a fool turns down untold riches. so it's a hard discussion.
people like Pelle and Gervinho just put more weight on the money.

Ronaldo banks more than anyone and cares a hell of a lot more than anyone about what people think of him. You can earn what you like, it can't numb your emotions.

Did you ever take them seriously as footballers? Gervinho's 29 and Pelle's 30, they gave it a shot at competing in biggest leagues and they've achieved all they can.

But I would say it's weird when a younger player decides to throw it all a way for money though.

Pellé is a journeyman who played in the Eredivisie for years and was offered the chance aged 30 to switch from playing for Southampton to become one of the best paid footballers in the world. Do you really begrudge his decision?

Yeah, money obviously becomes a bigger factor the lower the level you play at. You're throwing away less.
