well i would expect a bit more emotion heft [size=x-small]font=arial, sans-serif [/font][/size]than the average season, seeing as though we're on the home stretch. perhaps i just don't care much for the characters as much as i thought, or because it's been a fairly deliberate pace up to and now that it's relatively breakneck the smaller moments are a bit buried

We can all discuss it on Monday, but holy shit, the first line in your spoiler is going to have some interesting consequences.

I must say though the sense of timing (in terms of travel distances) is all over the place. Still, suspend that disbelief and enjoy the ride.

Easiest thing to do with the timing is to imagine episodes cover greater time. It still leaves some weird pacing, e.g., why were events at Dragonstone sooooooo drawn out relative to elsewhere? But that's a minor issue. The jet-packing issue is minor if you don't allow yourself to be constrained by the detailed scene-setting of the first few seasons which were trying to accomplish something different from this penultimate lap we are on now

It's pretty funny. Not only do we have the excitement of characters trying to escape the white walkers in the show, but we the viewers are now participants in a game called "evade the leaks"! It's a really innovative way of creating consumer engagement.

Most of the stuff in the finale was spoiled ages ago though. All the leaks, despite what HBO claimed back when it happened, have been spot on in the 6 episodes I've seen.

Does it matter, though? Nobody who doesn't want to read it would've read it, so I don't see the problem.

Thankfully, I have managed to avoid all the spoilers. And thanks to members of this forum for being well-behaved about such things. I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode. The premise for what happens north of the wall is rather daft but I expect some blockbuster action that will make Hard Home look like a Dolph Lungdren straight-to-video afterthought.

I liked the leaked episode, but [spoiler]in no way was it better than Hardhome. Hardhome had excellent tension that this episode just didn't have. Also I haven't complained a lot about the Westeros Enhanced Travel this season, but they really seem to have written themselves into a corner with this. Gendry runnning to Eastwatch, sending a raven to Daenerys and her coming to save them, all while they were stranded on that island was too much.[/spoiler]

That whole sequence could've been four to five days, from the point that Gendry was dispatched. Not sure if that is completely unreasonable. The men had some swanky backpacks, probably filled with meats, water and breads. They should've been able to survive that long while Gendry ran back. The difficulty with these episodes is that a lot of on-screen time is spent on things that don't take too long, and very little time is spent on boring long sea journeys or dragon flights spanning the entire continent

its a shame alot of the other shit beyond the wall was dragged out, like the mance rayder stuff, while the sequence involving more interesting characters is over so quickly. i would've gladly watched half a season of these dudes getting into shenanigans beyond the wall

That doesn't justify it for me. If they were there for five days and it doesn't look that way to the viewers, that's on the creators. They have the responsibility to show that. If they can't find a better way, just make someone literally say it.
