Not sure what's funnier, the idea of Kroenke forcing him to spend or Stones' name mentioned next to Higuain Pogba and Zlatan 😆

I suspect pressure was put on him to make a big name signing before he got Ozil.

Can't really say. Makes no sense for Kroenke to pressure him into spending money (doesn't do that for his other teams either by all accounts) and at the same time I'd guess Wenger for all his faults still loves to work with world class players.

I reckon it's more a case of Wenger treating the club's funds like his own, spending only when he feels he's getting class players for a reasonable fee. Would make sense looking at how the guys he wanted to get and those he actually landed aren't even in the same position (Higuain, Suárez, Özil)

I got the impression at time through things Gaizidis was saying that there was some pressure on Wenger. Kroenke obviously doesn't want to put money into the club but I think there is a realisation there that to stay at a certain level of value the clubs needs to remain successful and if we hadn't both Ozil and then Sanchez there would have been every chance we'd have dropped from the top CL places.

Again its all speculation either way but its the impression I got at the time. Remember this is the summer Wenger tried to sign Suarez from Liverpool too.

But in that case it would made a lot more sense to put pressure on Wenger last summer and even more so this winter when the biggest chance to win the league for many years arose which earns you a lot more money than just the CL especially given the new seeding system in the CL.

No one last summer was calling this the best chance in years. This was before Chelsea completely imploded and when most thought City would be back to winning ways too. Wenger had signed a top keeper too, 4th was secure and we had won 2 cups. The fans were pretty happy too, there was a definite illusion amongst a lot of fans that things had changed. Just look at this place this time last year, so many people bought into the idea that we were now a club who would splash out every summer.

That's not what I meant. I'm saying if the club is putting pressure on Wenger to sign a big name they would do the same to get any fucking name in last summer. Also more importantly last winter was the big chance to make sure we win the league looking at our rivals and we got Elneny for 3m. If Gazidis/Kroenke are indeed working like someone who's worried about the club's ambition for not signing a big name they'd most certainly act in a situation like that wouldn't they

We are linked with Raphael Guerreiro again.

I think it's highly likely Gibbs will want to leave and that can only be a positive for us if we get in a decent replacement. Not difficult at all.

I'd rather get an Englishman if we're replacing Gibbs. Didn't think I'd ever say this but looking at our British Core right now Gibbs isn't the biggest problem, I'd rather replace any of the other blokes with (possibly non-HG) quality than Gibbs.

Hmm, given what we know about Kroenke's sporting ethos and how he thinks a club can make money, and then juxtapose Wengers football philosophy beside it, do you think that there will be pressure on Wenger to choose a marquee player for next season Jonesy?

I'm not sure I understand you correctly Biggus. If by "choose" you mean the decision which marquee signing we'll get I'm 100% sure that's going to be Wenger's decision; the board and Gazidis don't seem to know anything about football in the first place, neither about which big players are available nor which we'd actually need. You'd assume Gazidis as the CEO of a football club should have a clue but in the seven years he's been here I can't recall any situation where you could tell he's more than a suit.

If you're talking about whether we're getting a marquee signing in at all I also think that's going to be decided by Wenger although there's more of a chance of egghead and co involved in the process.

Alvaro Morata: "I don't know where I will be playing next season. I just want to know where I can buy a house."

It's on.

Buy him a fucking house.

Does Morata have it in him to become prolific?

Rather Lukaku...

From the perspective of the type of football we aspire to play - Morata.
From the perspective of scoring record - Lukaku.

Rather get Dembele than Morata or Lukaku.

So you'd rather replace Wilshere and Oxlade than Kieran Gibbs?

If GIbbs did want to leave, Oviedo at Everton is free. I've always liked him.

A few links to Mazzy Gotze. I can see Arsene going for him if he becomes available
