Police stopped a car containing 4 black teenagers.
The car was owned by the driver, was being driven correctly and was registered.
It was roadworthy and the driver was properly licensed and had not been drinking.
So they charged them with wasting police time.......

Yeah I heard about that, and the kid that was charged with pinching a chocolate bar which the magistrate lashed the police for wasting the courts time.

If you black up be prepared for the consequences. My point is simple. The intentions of the impersonators may well be harmless, but because of the history of blacking up many get offended, rightly or wrongly. When I say offended I don't mean they are crying into a bucket ready to take out a lawsuit. They just find it tasteless.

I take it the guy complaining on the podcast was white.

Yes we all want to live in a world where everything is fine and really there's no prejudice, racism or stereotyping and when minorities (basically non-white people) complain it's because we are essentially OTT or exaggerating but that's bullshit. Prejudice and racism didn't end in 1963, it still happens. Don't try to make out like i'm saying what happened at Orient is a racist act but stop acting like everything is ok.

You have to be stupid to believe black people are not real but simply a state of mind. You have to be stupid to think that you could get far politically being something that's supposedly not real in being black when you could easily concoct another state of mind in making it that people are all one. But you are not stupid are you Biggus? Just because black people are in politics and promote black issues in politics does not mean that's all there is to being black. Neither are the millions of Africans thinking, 'no we're not black but really this is state of mind'.

It's not the guy expressing his opinion that I'm concerned with, of course he has every right to do that, it's the fact that he even had a problem with it in the first place that I find strange.

Tony - I think every situation should be judged for what it is. Do I think it's wrong to ever "black" your skin up to look like a black person? No, I don't. Do I think the guys who did it in tribute to Alex Song were wrong? No, I don't. Do I think the example you gave of Fernando Alonso fans doing it to mock Lewis Hamilton's family was wrong? yes, I do.

Sure I agree that every situation should be judged for what it is. But when we get to that situation how do we know what the intention is? It's not always obvious.

But I don't have a problem with the Song impersonations nor do I have a problem with the "black lady" on Come fly with me. Shite impersonations but I don't see it as racist.

Excuse the awful pun, but the world isn't black and white, mate. You interpret a situation how you interpret it, if you're offended, you're offended, but I think some people are conditioned to almost react without thinking. Without seeing that separate situation for what it really is.

I think the line is drawn by the person, or people, who are the subject of the joke.

If somebody makes an Irish joke I don't automatically get offended, it depends on the environment and spirit in which it is made and the context.

99.9% of the time it's inoffensive though not necessarily hilarious.
