Januzaj to Dortmund

Season long loan.

Isn't he one of the two players who've scored for them this season? 😆

Yep. The only way I can see this making a lick of sense, is they have some serious targets lined up and plenty of powder to burn. Don't forget they've already sold RvP, Falcao, Di Maria, Hernandez and Nani this summer.

Based on redcafe, they have no one other than Martial lined up. Although they might still sign a GK if De Gea leaves

Ahh ok, thanks, thought we can buy/ sell only in England after tonight.

There is still hope.

I think today is the last day we can buy from La Liga though.

Martial is more of a forward than Januzaj and I'd expect Van Gaal to try him or Depay as the lone forward since Rooney's looked awful there. Chances are the upturned toilet brush is their best forward which is about the only exciting thing about this deadline day.

I can't imagine Martial will be an immediate regular in this United side - even if he's talented.

Depay doesn't look ready for 50+ games either.

Everyone was big on Depay just last week.....

So their wide players are Mata, Young and Depay.....oh, how could I forget Valencia? Seems odd to let Januzaj go but he does need game time.

Draxler to Wolfsburg is official.

Basically a lateral move.

Nope

Wolfsburg in Cl. Investing in team. (Schurrle, Draxler, Luiz Gustavo, Dante all signed in last 2 years)

Schalke have good youngsters but don't have the ambition to buy big.

Depay's great - and against Brugge showed what he could do once he brings his game up a level. But atm he doesn't look fully adapted - which is understandable.

We should have signed Depay. Or put another way - if we don't sign Götze or Reus now, our 'transfer team' is made up of complete mugs.

Shouldn't have waited till the last day of the window then.  :brow:

Mugs the lot of them.

I wasn't suggesting he'll be a regular from the start. I agree that replacing Januzaj with him is not necessarily a step forward but it balances their squad better since they lack goalscorers and Martial can be used as a striker whereas Januzaj is more of a creative type.

Jeez they're on all the "Martial to United shows that strikers are not available" bandwagon now.
As if Man U's transfer dealings over the last couple of years have been a reliable barometer of anything.
Why sell Van Persie and get rid of Falcao if you want senior strikers?
Idiots.

Regarding Martial, and take it with a grain of salt as it's from Reddit:

Anthony Martial was always a huge talent; he joined OL at the age of 14 and he was always recognized as basically the gem of his generation. at age 16 he scored 32 goals in 21 matches in the French U17 division and he was getting to play with the first team at age 17. Martial was often regarded as one of the best out of his group of NJie, Fékir, Benzia, Ghezzal, etc from OL's academy.

OL are a club that is floated on the stock market, so they have to maintain strong enough finances for their shareholders. OL were in a bit of financial difficulty at the end of the 2012-13 season and they needed to sell one more player in order to balance the accounts. naturally, eyes turned to Bafétimbi Gomis who had a decent season, but the club wanted to sell him before his contract expired in 2014.

Gomis was basically being pushed out by OL. there was interest from France, England, Germany, Italy, and even Turkey. the advisor Bernard Lecombe said himself that Monaco, Swansea, Leverkusen, Fiorentina and Fenerbahce were all interested in signing him. Gomis had already agreed in the past to not leave on a free...but then he changed his mind at the worst time possible.
as expected, there were major protests from fans about the transfer. Martial was the future for many years, and Gomis would have been gone after one more season. OL officially stated that the president Jean-Michel Aulas would meet with Gomis and Lacombe to find out a way to make Gomis more open to negotiating a move away from the club, but he wouldn't leave.

OL gave Gomis months, giving him a deadline of June 30 to make a decision. But at the last minute he pulled out of everything and Monaco swooped in for Martial. now imagine if OL still had Martial alongside Lacazette and Fékir, which would have been spectacular. if I could feel bad for OL, I would.

but alas, it was not meant to be. OL sold Martial for 5 million euros, with a significant profit on any future transfer and the solidarity fee. in the official statement, they even made a dig at Gomis for not leaving yet. and now a couple of years later, Martial is where he is at now, and Monaco could be selling him for 50+ million euros.

I never understood moves like this, but it happens all the time in Germany. Ozil did that with Schalke to Werder as well.

We need a wide forward as much as we we need a striker. Maybe even more so. Imo, Giroud is as good up front as both Chamberlain and Ramsey are out wide.

United might end up with Keylor Navas in exchange for De Gea which is a very good deal for them, all things considered
