There are loads of funny American comedians, Dave Chappelle for example is probably the funniest human ever. But good God do they suck at cabaret/political comedy

That American late night format peaked under Bush and hasn't changed at all since. Everyones trying to be John Stewart and he was already stale when he quit. Its also one of the biggest echo chambers in American discourse. There is no challenge to the current order just liberal talking points you'd as easily see on CNN.

Same for me I should have said something like all American political comedy sucks.

However for some reason I knew exactly which poster would find an issue with a lack of approval for this particular comedian

Yes, the way it was expressed and a recollection I have of a post where there was something said about another female comedian led me to believe that there was an unconscious bias there.

Blokes are funnier in general but there are exceptions to the rule.

Daisy May Cooper and Sue Perkins being prime examples.

At first I thought The Good Place was surprisingly good. Then I noticed that it's from the creator of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Parks & Rec, and then it wasn't surprising anymore. It's a different kind of comedy, as there's plenty of development every episode. Ted Danson is great in it, and Kristen Bell is very likeable considering that she plays a person who has treated everyone in her life badly, and considering that she's a female.
