Star Trek: Discovery. Set in the prime universe. That's all I needed to hear to get my heart pumping. Safe to say it'll take place in the post-TNG era too since they're making such a big deal of returning to Roddenberry's vision.

Every single announcement about this show has been great so far. Now go for the slam dunk and confirm that Nathan Fillion will spearhead the cast.

Whenever you guys are feeling down, spare a thought for Peter MacNicol:

"Six days after being nominated for an Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for his role as Jeff Kane on HBO’s Veep, Peter MacNicol has been ruled ineligible for the award and had his nomination rescinded, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The Academy of Televison Arts and Sciences will announce the actor who received the next highest number of votes in the category as the replacement nominee soon.

MacNicol was disqualified for appearing in too many of the show’s episodes; the rules require that a guest actor nominee be in less than half of a season. At the time his name was submitted for the Emmy, Veep was still in production, and HBO anticipated that he’d appear in four of the season’s 10 episodes. Subsequently, however, he was included in 10 seconds of footage in the show’s ninth episode, a documentary supposedly assembled by the daughter of series lead Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ President Selina Meyer. Those 10 seconds meant he was in 50 percent of season’s episodes and disqualified him."

Have you read the Preacher GNs? Have to say it's been a commendable effort, but the adaptation really hasn't worked for me, and it's gotten a little worse as it's gone along.

Jesse's the big problem. Cooper really overperforms the character's internal emotional state relative to the much more impassive hero of the comic. Sort of ruins it because he's more Woody Allen than John Wayne.

The biggest issue for me is that it's so watered down, even though I expected it to be beforehand. I'm usually a fan of modern retellings and adaptations, but the abrasive nature of Preacher was the biggest part of it. Any modern reimagining of the story should push the boundaries of the comic further - not struggle to live up to them.

Yeah, I agree, but the flat affect of the comics' characters played a big part in that too. Either way it's not really working for me, I can barely keep my eyes on the screen which is not at all what a Preacher adaptation should be like.

Could someone recommend a TV show from the following? Planning on using my Amazon Prime membership to download these shows for offline viewing and watch them on the train. I'm leaning towards the Walking Dead atm.

Walking Dead is good entertainment, Man in High Castle is also good and worth a watch though I'm a little worried about the direction it's going to go in next season. Sons of Anarchy is good, last season or two it does start to drag, didn't even finish it in the end. Prison Break is great, just stop watching after season 1.

Black Sails has a pretty mediocre first season, but the second and third are top notch television. Preacher is okay and Prison Break turns to shit after a while. Haven't seen the others.

havent seen preacher or man in the high castle

vikings and black sails grow into into good shows, but start out a bit slow

SOA and prison break both start well and nosedive in later seasons (from season 5 and season 2 respectively)

walking dead is way overrated. its above average at best
