The church episode before, and now this. I can't make out if he's just brilliant or we're living in a mediocre media age. they seem such simple faulty loopholes.

I think John Oliver is brilliant. He is lucky to be working in the States though, because there are so many things fucked up with that country he never runs out of great topics. My favorite US fuck up, that I'm aware of, is probably civil forfeiture. 🙂

most people here view him as brilliant, but the people who watch him already agree with him, so hes not going to change a lot of minds since hes basically preaching to the choir.

silicon valley has been pretty great this season, realky excited to see how they tie it up. erlich's fall will hopefully lead to him having to rely on richard, which should provide plenty of laughs

I don't think he'd be lacking for material back in the UK/EU.

Don't think he's quite as good as Jon Stewart, in fact since he's stopped I've been thinking no one is as good as Jon Stewart at that sort of stuff. Colbert has been shit since he dropped the act so count him out. Oliver is great, for half an hour a week, that he's in his second year of it. Stewart did 4 nights a week for 16 years and never really let up.

I just finished the 6-episode mini series Hap and Leonard. It didn't have much budget but I thought it turned into very entertaining tv after a tentative first episode. It was written and created by Jim Mickle and Nick Damici. Those who have watched their other stuff will recognise the gritty southern settings and the violent core themes.

I was waiting for the next episode of The Americans before realising episode 13 was the finale. Bit disappointing.

think it ended with/in a whimper too. rest of the season was as good as before though. Just seemed like it missed a crescendo.

The Americans has been criticized for their finales and that nothing separates the seasons. I don't see anything wrong with it personally.

It can be done but you need great writing to pull it off. Most shows would be better off going for a cliff hanger type ending. I haven't seen The Americans but from what I know it's a spy thriller sort of show, which seems unusual to go out on a slow finale.

I don't think I'd like The Americans half as much if it went for those big cheap cliffhangers you guys seem to be talking about. There is a cliffhanger but it's a dramatic one rather than an action cliffhanger. Almost every Russian characters future is in question.

Last seasons ended was pretty good, set this season up nicely. You don't need a traditional cliffhanger but it should build up the drama. Their future has been in question all season long, to a larger degree than the seasons finale left it at in my opinion. It's not the lack of a cliffhanger that made it a disappointment, I just thought it lacked the suspense and drama that was delivered in prior episodes.

'Twas an excellent season overall.

Although I disagree with alot of what they came up with, I found the idea very compelling. Listing the greatest HBO television characters of all time. Might return in a few with a list of my own.
